Have you ever sat in an airport, awaiting a flight to an important event only to hear that your flight has been delayed? It has happened to me on more than one occasion, and it can be pretty frustrating.
But there also are times when some other blessing in our life seems to be delayed. For example, one of our Inspiration Partners wrote that she was puzzled about this:
“Barbara, I don’t understand why my Harvest seems to have been delayed. Do you think something is hindering me from Reaping God’s blessings?”
Can you relate to this? At one time or another, I think we’ve all experienced what this dear woman is describing. God certainly doesn’t always work on our timetable, does He?
Yes, the Lord always is faithful to the promises in His Word. But sometimes we simply need to patiently wait, just as we must do if our flight is delayed at the airport. Hebrews 6:12 says God’s promises are fulfilled through a combination of “faith and patience” and we need BOTH!
I’ve also found that many times when I’m waiting on God to give me some breakthrough, He’s waiting on ME to take some step of faith. For example, I may have wondered why my Harvest was delayed, when I hadn’t actually planted any Seeds lately. I wanted the Lord to give me increase, but I hadn’t taken time to give Him something He could multiply.
Of all the lessons I’ve learned over the years, however, this stands out the most: The key to every-thing in the Christian life is walking in loving obedience and developing an intimate relationship with the Lord. Sometimes life’s unforeseen delays are just His way of inviting us to draw nearer to Him.
A Quick Inventory
The apostle Paul makes an intriguing statement in Ephesians 6:13 (NIV). He says that after we’ve “done everything,” we can stand firm in faith and expect God to come through for us. Dear friend, this means we can have great confidence in God fulfilling His promises once we’ve first met the conditions His Word puts on those promises. I’m convinced He wants to bless our finances, health, emotions, and relationships, but we need to do things His way and then patiently await our breakthrough.
So, I encourage you to take a quick inventory. If you’ve taken these 7 vital steps, you can be sure your blessings are on the way:
- Walk in a loving, obedient, faith-filled relationship with the Lord.
- Obey His Word and the voice of His Holy Spirit.
- Give each financial Seed you Sow a specific assignment for what you’re asking God to do on your be-half.
- Wrap your Seeds with faith and expectancy.
- Sow your Seeds into Good Ground, continually and persistently.
- Patiently wait to Reap your Harvest.
- Thank God in advance; then honor Him with your testimony when you receive your breakthrough!
If we’ve done these things, we can be confident: “At the proper time we WILL reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9 NIV).
Don’t lose heart, my friend. You can trust your Heavenly Father and know that His blessings are on the way.
