Staying Obedient to God

No matter what may be happening in the financial world, there may be cause to be concerned. The news you are hearing could be premature. It’s man’s word and not God’s Word. It could lull you into a false sense of comfort which may then tempt you to turn away from God’s way and fall into the world’s way.

You see, whether the economy is good or bad, God’s request to us is simple: stay committed to doing things His way — which includes turning away from the temptations of the world, in whatever form they come to us.

The Bible Speaks of These Temptations

You only have to look to Colossians 2:8 when Paul warns us that temptations are man-made:

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”

Paul is telling us that temptation of any kind is a hollow philosophy. Temptation is man’s way — and Satan’s way — to stop you from doing things God’s way.

When faced with a decision, ask the Lord, “Is this your way, or man’s way?” Wait to hear an honest answer to that question before you take any action on the temptation you are facing. It doesn’t matter if the decision involves your finances, your relationship, your health, or any other area of your life — God will show you His way when you ask Him for direction.

Staying True to God’s Way

God’s Word says that we are the sum total of our choices — both good and bad. The decisions we make today impact everything about tomorrow.

God has given us the awesome, life-changing power of choice. Every day, we can choose between God’s plans or the devil’s; action or inaction; productivity or laziness; faith or fear; wisdom or foolishness; obedience or sin.

The power to make the right decision — the obedient decision — is in your hands. Choose to follow God’s way and you will see the circumstances in your life begin to change!

God’s promise is to give you overflowing life through His Son, Jesus Christ:

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly!” (John 10:10b)

The devil wants you to believe that you are a victim. Whether it’s your health, finances, or your relationships, Satan wants to tempt you with hollow promises.

But the only way to move from the darkness of the devil’s deceit is not in the headlines that you read about the world around you, but in doing things according to the obedience God has placed in your heart.

Take time now to lift your voice to Him in prayer, asking that He stand beside you as you turn away from the temptations of man, and choose instead to walk in His divine wisdom.
