Gracie B and the Value of Family-Friendly Kids’ Programming

John FarrellBy John Farrell6 Minutes

In today’s world, children are exposed to all kinds of entertainment. Some of it is enriching, but sadly, much of it is inappropriate yet easily accessible to our kids. These shows, movies, video games, and music present challenges for parents who want to ensure their children are consuming content that reflects their faith and values.

Often kids’ shows and movies contain material that would make many parents uncomfortable if they knew. In today’s media environment, it’s crucial to instill Christian values early. One of the easiest ways to safeguard your children and ensure they’re learning positive values is by limiting and monitoring screen time.

Kid-friendly shows from trusted, faith-friendly sources are essential. These shows provide:

    • A foundation for character development
    • Positive role models
    • Support for parents in teaching important values like love, kindness, and responsibility

Fortunately, Inspiration Ministries has developed “Gracie B and the Honeycombs” a colorful animated kids’ series. In Season 1, kids learned about the fruit of the spirit, such as love, kindness, and forgiveness. Gracie B, a sweet and spirited honeybee, and her Honeycomb friends Sally, Grit, and Winston, face various challenges—often caused by the cockroach villains, Chick and Wilbur. As they make music and navigate life’s obstacles, the Honeycombs learn valuable lessons about faith and friendship.

“Gracie B and the Honeycombs” will be back for a second season of nine episodes. The first half of Season 2 is already underway, including a brand-new Easter special called “1 and 99.” However, they need some help to cross the finish line to get it fully funded. If you would like to support their second season, please visit the Gracie B crowdfunding campaign page.

Reinforcing Core Christian Values

At the heart of Christian faith are values like love, compassion, humility, forgiveness, and respect. These virtues are essential for spiritual growth as well as healthy relationships. Kid-friendly shows like “Gracie B and the Honeycombs” reinforce what children learn at home and in church by providing real examples of Christian principles.

For example, Gracie B and her friends forgive others who wrong them. This helps children understand the biblical teaching of “as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive” (Colossians 3:13 ESV). Similarly, when Gracie B shows kindness and selflessness—to enemies, as well as friends—it mirrors the Christian call to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). These stories act as a moral compass, guiding children to live out faith in everyday situations.

Positive Role Models for Kids

Children naturally look up to the characters they watch, often copying their behavior. That’s why it’s so important for the role models in kids’ shows to reflect the values you want your kids to learn.

In “Gracie B and the Honeycombs,” the characters always try to do the right thing. They face moral dilemmas, but they resolve them in ways that honor God. Gracie B and friends model honesty, courage, patience, and self-control—qualities essential for personal growth and social harmony. Even Chick and Wilbur, though mischievous, end up learning lessons in the process!

Supporting Parents in Moral Education

Parents and guardians play the primary role in teaching children about faith and morals. Yet it’s  impossible to control every influence in a child’s life—especially when it comes to the media. In a world often filled with harmful messages, “Gracie B and the Honeycombs” offers parents a valuable tool for nurturing their children’s spiritual growth as they watch characters live out Christian values.

These shows don’t just entertain—they also open the door for meaningful conversations between parents and children. After watching an episode together, parents can talk with kids about grace and forgiveness. This reinforces the teachings and helps kids internalize simple lessons they can understand.

Countering Negative Media Influences

Too often secular values dominate the media landscape. That makes it even more important for children to have access to content that reflects their Christian faith. Shows like “Gracie B and the Honeycombs” offer an alternative to the negative messages often found in today’s media. They help shield kids from harmful influences while sharing positive, uplifting messages that align with biblical values.
