Have you ever been hurt—physically or emotionally—and felt so angry you wanted to get back at the person who wronged you? Or maybe, while trying to stick to a healthy diet, you’ve struggled with the urge to grab that midnight snack or indulge in dessert when you know you really shouldn’t? Perhaps you’ve been out shopping, spotted something you really wanted, but resisted the impulse because you had a budget to follow. If you’ve ever held yourself back from seeking revenge, giving in to temptation, or making an impulse purchase, congratulations—you’ve demonstrated self-control. And self-control is a powerful virtue. It’s one of the nine fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23, alongside love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness.

In the final episode of Season 1 of “Gracie B and the Honeycombs,” Gracie B and her bandmates—Grit, Sally, and Winston—are rehearsing their songs. After hours of practice, they take a well-deserved break and head to the local ice cream parlor. But while they’re away, their mischievous rivals, Chick and Wilbur, spot the band’s unattended instruments, including Sally’s beloved drums and Grit’s bass guitar. Curiosity and carelessness get the best of them, and Chick and Wilbur accidentally destroy the instruments.

When Gracie B and the Honeybees return and discover the damage, Sally’s first instinct is to lose her temper. Chuck and Wilbur, realizing their mistake, scramble to fix the instruments with glue, but it’s no use. Sally comes dangerously close to an outburst, but instead, she pauses and chooses a different path. She remembers that reacting with anger won’t solve anything. Instead, she practices self-control—choosing wisdom over rage.

This lesson reflects the wisdom of Proverbs 29:11:

A fool vents all his feelings,
But a wise man holds them back (NKJV).

Losing control might feel easy in the moment, but it often leads to more hurt and unresolved problems. God’s Word teaches us that a quick temper leads to foolishness, while calmness and self-restraint pave the way for resolution and healing.

In Episode 9, Gracie B and her friends remind us of this powerful truth, accompanied by their high-energy song, “Here’s What You Do.” It’s a lively anthem that encourages listeners to choose self-control and wisdom in the face of life’s challenges.
