When Will It Be My Turn to Be Happy

When Will It Be My Turn to Be Happy?

If you have been asking yourself, “When will it be my turn to be happy?” You are in for a treat. Because the answer is today! Today it is your turn to be happy. Are you surprised? If you are, perhaps it’s because you’ve been looking in the wrong places. (But I bet you already knew that.)

There are countless situations all around us that can shove happiness to the curb if we let them. Being happy does not, and should not, always depend on our situation. Life, by design, changes daily. If we place our hopes, dreams, and happiness on situational circumstances, we lay our lives and emotions at the feet of a tumultuous world.

It is important to understand that the pursuit of happiness is not the same as seeking pleasure. Pleasure and happiness are often confused. Nevertheless, they are two entirely different animals.

Pleasure vs Happiness

Pleasure is an insatiable drug. By its nature, it is a carnal pursuit. It seeks instant gratification that is never completely fulfilled. Happiness, in sharp contrast is a byproduct of choices made. It produces a deep satisfaction that is undergirded with contentment and gratitude.

Another common misconception is, in order to be happy you have to get what you want. But there are so many things in life to want. When you strive for happiness through achievement, it becomes illusive. You are left only with envy and strife, and the lie that others have what you want.

We often think we know what will make us happy. This too is a false conception. The dream job that we believe will end all of our financial woes, can introduce new stress and anxiety. The big new house that took years of work and savings, can ultimately cause bankruptcy. The lifestyle of indulgence can cost you your health.

To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (Ecclesiastes 2:26)

Without knowing and pleasing God, we spend our days chasing the wind in search of happiness.

God gives happiness.

The choice to seek after God, is the first step to real happiness. The kind of happiness that leads to joy in every circumstance.

Today we can trust that God’s Word is true, that he alone can give us wisdom, knowledge, and happiness, we can stop chasing every wind that blows empty promises of fulfillment.
