No Longer a Victim: Christina’s Testimony of Healing from Childhood Abuse

Christina endured severe abuse and rejection throughout her childhood. Yet even as a young girl, she cried out to God in prayer and trusted Him to intervene.

Years later, the Lord brought an answer Christina could not have produced on her own. God not only strengthened her to rise above her painful past, but He also transformed the heart of her mother and restored a relationship that had been broken for decades.

Christina’s testimony of healing from childhood abuse does not minimize the evil committed against her. Instead, it reveals that trauma does not have the final word. Jesus Christ offers hope, redemption, and a new identity to those who trust Him.

Finding Hope in a Childhood of Abuse

Throughout Christina’s childhood, her mother carried a deep-rooted hatred toward her. Her father sexually abused her by crawling into her bed at night. Day after day, Christina suffered terrible injustice, rejection, and neglect.

What happened to her was evil. She was not responsible for the abuse, and she did not deserve it.

Yet in the darkness of those years, Christina began reaching toward the Lord. When she was only 10 years old, she would take her two favorite dolls into her bedroom closet and pray. She remembered Jesus’ words:

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20).

Christina did not yet have people beside her who understood her pain, but she believed God heard her prayers. She began to hope that He could change the hearts of her parents.

Her circumstances did not change immediately. Still, she continued praying into adulthood. In time, she found real-life prayer partners through the International Prayer Center of Inspiration Ministries.

A Phone Call Opens the Door to Family Restoration

By the time Christina was 47, she was faithfully serving the Lord and partnering with Inspiration Ministries.

One afternoon, her younger sister called with unexpected news. Their mother, now frail, had fallen and broken her back. She was being treated at a hospital not far from Christina’s home.

Several decades had passed, but Christina’s mother still carried hatred and resentment toward her. Christina had been estranged from her for years and was unsure whether visiting would be wise.

Then Christina sensed that she should go. Walking into that hospital room required courage. Forgiveness did not mean pretending the past had never happened, and it did not remove the need for wisdom. Christina simply chose to obey the Lord’s leading.

When she entered the room, she was shocked by what her mother said:

“Christina, God is speaking to me. I have hated you for so long and I’m very sorry. I also have been partnering with Inspiration Ministries, and when I pass, I want you to carry on my pledge to them. I’m so thankful for the impact they have made on my life.”

The apology could not return Christina’s stolen childhood. But it marked the beginning of something new—repentance, reconciliation, and a relationship neither woman had experienced before.

God Builds a Beautiful Relationship

Over the next few months, Christina’s mother endured hospital visits and surgeries. As she grew weaker, family members came to say goodbye.

During those final weeks, God continued healing what had been broken between mother and daughter. Christina and her mother began to share a beautiful relationship.

“Those last few weeks were full of laughter and tears of joy,” Christina recalls. “My mother was at peace for the first time in her life.”

Just a few months after their relationship was restored, Christina’s mother passed away. She died at peace with the Lord and with her family.

“God is a God of transformation and restoration,” Christina has learned. “My mother received the greatest healing a person could ever receive—knowing that God loved her, no matter what.”

The change Christina witnessed in her mother points to the transforming power of Christ. Scripture declares, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Healing Does Not Mean the Abuse Defines You

Christina’s history remained part of her story, but it no longer controlled her identity. She was a woman loved by God, strengthened through prayer, and made new through Christ.

Being “no longer a victim” does not mean that wounds disappear overnight. It does not mean a person should remain in an unsafe situation, ignore criminal behavior, or restore access to someone who remains dangerous and unrepentant.

It means the person who caused the harm does not have the authority to define the rest of the survivor’s life.

The journey may include prayer, biblical counsel, help from trusted leaders, and professional trauma-informed care. Seeking appropriate help is not a lack of faith. God often works through the people and resources He places around us.

Sowing Seeds That Help Transform Lives

Christina remains grateful for the role Inspiration Ministries played in her mother’s transformation.

“I want this story to inspire others to trust in the God of transformations and unending hope,” she says.

Christina honored her mother’s desire by continuing her support of Inspiration Ministries. She also increased her own monthly pledge.

“What an honor it is to sow seeds into a ministry that is transforming lives like my mother’s!” she explains.

Your Past Does Not Have the Final Word

Christina’s testimony does not promise that every broken family relationship will be restored in the same way. It does show that God remains present in suffering, hears the cries of His people, and is able to transform lives.

The abuse Christina endured was evil, contrary to God’s righteous commands, and never her fault. Yet the Lord met her in her pain, sustained her through years of prayer, and brought redemption into a story marked by terrible injustice.

You are seen. You are loved. In Christ, your suffering does not have the final word.
