Yolanda’s Testimony: Leaving Security Behind and Trusting God to Provide

Yolanda had a successful career and a comfortable life, but behind her outward success, she was fighting a private battle. Then God called her to leave everything familiar behind. What followed was a journey of faith, sacrifice, prayer, and remarkable provision.

From the outside, Yolanda appeared to have everything going for her. In her hometown of Hiram, Georgia, she had built a successful career writing in the clinical research field and was earning nearly six figures.

But underneath it all, she admitted there were many voids in her life.

“I hid it well,” she said, “but as a single mom searching for ways to escape loneliness and depression, I was on the path of destruction. Worst of all, I didn’t know who to talk to about my struggles.”

Right when things looked darkest, the Lord revealed Himself to Yolanda. One day at work, she heard Him audibly calling her name. Astonished, she turned to a Christian friend for guidance.

When God Called Yolanda to a New Life

Yolanda’s friend pointed her to the account of Samuel in 1 Samuel 3:8–9. As a young boy, Samuel heard the Lord calling him and, with Eli’s guidance, learned to answer, “Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.”

“Once I realized it truly was God calling to me, I was able to answer Him,” Yolanda shared. “And once I answered Him, my life dramatically changed.”

But following that call would require more than a change in perspective. It would mean leaving behind the financial security and comfortable lifestyle she had worked so hard to build.

The Lord was leading her to quit her job and travel throughout the United States, touching needy lives with the love of Jesus.

“God called me to give away most of my possessions, pack up my truck, and hit the road with my daughter Matty,” she recalled. “We were leaving our comfortable life in order to provide for the needs of others.”

Trusting God When Financial Security Was Gone

Following God’s leading, they traveled to Florida, where Yolanda and Matty settled into temporary housing.

Yolanda was out of work and knew she would soon be in dire financial straits unless the Lord intervened.

One afternoon, while watching television, they came across a broadcast of Inspiration Ministries’ Campmeeting. As Yolanda listened to the message, faith rose in her heart.

With her own need pressing in, she called Inspiration Ministries to sow a seed to win souls and disciple believers around the world.

For Yolanda, giving was another step of faith and a way to participate in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Scripture teaches the principle of sowing and reaping. In 2 Corinthians 9:6–11, Paul connects generous giving with God’s abundant grace, His provision for good works, and a harvest that produces thanksgiving to Him.

Yolanda was learning to trust the Lord not only for her own needs but also with the resources He had placed in her hands.

Finding Strength Through the Power of Prayer

Even as Yolanda followed the Lord, the journey wasn’t easy.

She needed more than financial provision. She longed for someone who would stand with her in prayer, offer encouragement, and help her remain strong in faith.

Through Inspiration Ministries, she discovered the International Prayer Center.

“Every time I would feel frustrated about following God on this journey of faith, an Inspiration prayer minister would call and ask if they could pray for me,” she said. “Often when I prayed with your prayer ministers about something, our prayers were answered within a matter of days! It was absolutely amazing.”

“Each phone call was like hearing from a friend,” she explained. “I could tell the prayer ministers cared deeply about our well-being.”

In God’s perfect timing, He was using the prayer ministers to reassure Yolanda that He was still leading her and her daughter.

She was discovering the strength that comes when believers stand together in faith and prayer.

From Homelessness to a Home in 60 Days

Then God moved. “In just 60 days, we went from being homeless to being in a home, having a job, and paying off our debt!” Yolanda exclaimed.

“God continues to use Inspiration Ministries to remind me of His faithful provision during our times of desperate need,” she said.

Yolanda returned to writing, and some of her books share the personal lessons she learned while living a life of faith. At the time she shared her testimony, she and Matty were continuing to travel across the country, blessing others and telling them about God’s faithfulness.

Through prayer and monthly giving, she and Matty saw the Lord take impossible situations and bring remarkable breakthroughs. Through their giving, they were also helping share the Gospel with people they might never meet personally.

“We would never go back to the life we had before, because it wasn’t nearly as exciting as the life we have now,” she said. “For four years, we’ve been traveling nationwide—wherever God leads us—and it has been an amazing journey. Inspiration Ministries, you’ve been on this journey with me and my daughter every step of the way!”

When You Don’t Know What Comes Next

Second Corinthians 9:8 declares, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”
