God’s Ways Are Higher: An Answered Prayer

When Bruce received a call from an Inspiration Ministries prayer minister, he was carrying a burden he could not resolve.

A painful family conflict had damaged a relationship and placed his finances under serious strain. He had cosigned an auto loan for a family member, but the decision left him responsible for a debt that was now affecting his own future.

When Bruce later applied for a mortgage, the cosigned loan prevented him from qualifying. He felt trapped. He could not see a way to repair the financial damage or restore the relationship.

But God could see what Bruce could not.

A Lifetime of Learning to Trust God

Bruce first surrendered his life to Jesus 50 years ago, during the nationwide Jesus Movement.

“I could just see God had His hand on my generation. Hal Lindsey’s book, The Late Great Planet Earth, convinced me the world as I knew it was about to end! But decades have passed, and I’m still here.”

Through those decades, Bruce continued growing in his relationship with the Lord. More than 10 years ago, he also developed a connection with Inspiration Ministries.

As a screenwriter, Bruce was drawn to the ministry’s international Gospel outreach through media.

“I’ve grown and learned a lot,” said Bruce. “Inspiration Ministries has been a part of my growing.”

Yet years of following Christ did not mean Bruce never faced situations he could not understand. This family and financial crisis became one of those moments.

Prayer in an Impossible Situation

When the prayer minister called, Bruce welcomed the opportunity to pray with someone who would stand with him in faith.

The circumstances did not appear to have an easy solution. The loan remained. The mortgage was out of reach. The family relationship was strained.

Still, Bruce brought the situation before the Lord.

Scripture reminds us:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8–9).

These words do not mean every painful event is easy to explain. They remind us that God sees the whole picture when we can see only the difficulty in front of us. His wisdom is not limited by our circumstances, and His faithfulness does not depend on our ability to understand His plan.

An Answer Bruce Did Not Expect

Just 10 days after that prayer call, the car connected to the loan was totaled in an accident. Most importantly, no one was injured.

The unexpected event brought the financial obligation to an end. The burden that had seemed impossible to escape was suddenly removed.

“Prayer works!” chuckled Bruce.

Bruce did not claim to understand every detail of what happened. He did know that he had taken his burden to God, and the situation changed in a way he never could have planned.

But the financial resolution was only part of the story.

God Also Worked in the Relationship

The damaged family relationship did not heal in a single moment. Restoration took more time.

That slower answer carried an important lesson. Sometimes God changes our circumstances quickly. At other times, He works patiently in hearts, conversations, forgiveness, and trust.

Both require faith.

God’s Word says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

This promise does not say that everything we experience is good. It assures believers that God is at work through every circumstance to accomplish His good purpose.

Looking back, Bruce could see God’s faithfulness in both the immediate financial relief and the gradual restoration of the relationship.

“God’s ways are higher than ours, and He can work out things that are far beyond us. You can trust Him!”
