Shot in the Head

This powerful article shares Jannie’s incredible journey of faith and perseverance as a single mother raising four daughters in a dangerous neighborhood. Her trust in God was tested when she received devastating news that her daughter Rosetta had been shot in the head—but what followed was nothing short of a miracle. Through prayer and divine intervention, Jannie witnessed God’s protection in a way she’ll never forget.

Jannie is a mother, grandmother, and grateful partner of Inspiration Ministries, but her life is hardly predictable. She has lived through many challenges since having her first daughter at 15 years old and later, three more daughters to raise on her own.

Jannie and her daughters lived in a dangerous neighborhood, and she always feared for their safety. One day she came across an Inspiration Ministries program on TV and decided to call the International Prayer Center’s number on the screen.

She felt that God had led her to Inspiration Ministries for a divine reason, and she developed strong relationships with our prayer ministers as they prayed together that God would keep her and her daughters safe. One night Jannie was awakened at four o’clock in the morning and sensed God leading her downstairs. When she got to the kitchen, her telephone suddenly rang.

This can’t be good, she thought. No one calls me this early unless something terrible has happened. She picked up the phone and heard her daughter Rosetta’s husband on the other line.

“Ms. Jannie,” he began, “Rosetta’s been shot in the head. Come to the hospital now.”

The news was almost too much to bear. Jannie knew it would take a miracle from God to spare Rosetta’s life. Her knees weakened and she grew faint at the thought of losing her daughter. But then she remembered all the prayers for safety she and the Inspiration Ministries prayer ministers had prayed when frequent gunshots were heard throughout the neighborhood.

When Jannie arrived at the hospital and saw Rosetta, she couldn’t believe what the doctor told her.

“It’s a miracle,” he said. “Everything is okay. All she needed was a few stitches, and she is ready to go home now.”

Jannie was shocked and unable to speak, so the doctor continued, “The bullet did not lodge in her skull. In fact, it passed through her head with hardly any damage. It’s unbelievable, but she is perfectly fine.”

Jannie thanked God for His answered prayers as she hugged her daughter tightly.

“The Lord has faithfully kept my daughters alive!” she says with gratitude and joy “And ever since He led me to Inspiration Ministries, my whole life has changed. I give financially each month to this ministry, because I know this is only the beginning of what God will do in my life and the lives of my daughters.”
