New Life at Any Age

Plug an electronic device into an outlet, and it powers up, turns on, and surges to life. Plug a soul into a relationship with the Heavenly Father, and the exact same thing happens—at any age. Recently God revealed this truth to two senior saints who took the time to write to us.

Tim, approaching his 80th birthday, decided to make his “infant baptism personal” and declare his commitment to Christ with the sacrament of baptism by immersion. His obedience to the biblical command created an experience Tim said was “very memorable—the best of my life.”

Standing in the baptismal pool, Tim felt the power of the Spirit settle upon him—giving him both calmness and clarity to share his testimony. As he slid beneath the water, portraying his desire to die to self and rise to the new life of Christ, Tim felt a great refreshing wash over his soul.

“I felt a cleanness like I had never felt before; it covered the inside and outside of my body. I felt a freshness of a new life … I just wanted to savor the moment as long as I could.”

Then there’s John … now past his 80th birthday; he lives in a nursing home. His message and reflections on life sent our hearts soaring:

“I just learned about salvation yesterday. I finally understood that I am saved! The interesting thing is that I can look back at my long life and see God was there all along. When I played with gophers and snakes as a child … and when I built dams in the desert as a young man … it was God giving me desires (and work) to do.”

Both Tim and John help us understand Lamentations 3:22–23 (NLT) more fully:

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Both men chose to welcome the love and presence of God into their lives in their later years. Even after nearly eight decades of life, Tim says he’s excited about a “new chapter.” And John is anticipating the fresh desires God will plant— and fulfill—in his heart.

Such hope is a necessity in this journey of life. It is the mission of Inspiration Ministries to cover the earth with the glory of God and welcome individuals into fellowship with God.
