Moment of Freedom

Your Moment of Freedom: Jesus Sets You Free

Ben CerulloBy Ben Cerullo5 Minutes

Some struggles last so long that freedom can feel impossible—but Jesus specializes in sudden turnarounds. This is your reminder that no matter how long the bondage, one touch from Christ can bring complete and lasting freedom.

No matter how long you’ve been bound, one touch from Jesus can set you free.

One Sabbath day, Jesus was teaching in the synagogue where “there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years” (Luke 13:10–17). Imagine how hopeless she must have felt. For nearly two decades, she had endured this debilitating condition—stuck, limited, and weary.

Eighteen years is a long time to wait for freedom.

When You’ve Been Stuck Too Long

Perhaps you’re facing something similar today—a struggle that’s lingered far too long. You’ve tried everything, but nothing changes. Like this woman, you may feel crippled by something beyond your control.

Maybe it’s a medical issue doctors can’t solve.
Maybe it’s bills that outpace your income.
Maybe it’s a relationship that weighs you down.

Bondage has a way of convincing you that nothing will ever change.

But Jesus sets you free.

“With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). When you can’t help yourself and no one else can fix your problem, God can break through and bring spiritual freedom.

Bent but Not Forgotten

The Bible says this woman “was bent over and could not straighten herself.” What a picture of spiritual bondage—pressed down by life’s pressures, sins, or sorrows.

Sometimes the weight feels too heavy, and all we can do is cast our burdens on the Lord (Psalm 55:22). She had come to the end of her strength. She was ready for a miracle only God could perform.

And that’s often where freedom begins.

Jesus Sees You and Calls You

Then everything changed.

Verse 12 says, “Jesus saw her” and “called her over.”

Friend, Jesus sees you too. He knows your pain. He cares deeply. And He is calling you closer.

After eighteen years of suffering, she heard His liberating words:

“Woman, you are freed from your disability.”

Freed.

The word disability here means weakness or lack of strength. We’ve all been there—feeble, powerless, unable to fix ourselves. But “while we were still weak, Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6).

The same Savior who forgave you is the One who delivers you.
The same Jesus who saved you is the One who sets you free.

One Touch Changes Everything

The woman’s healing was instant:

“He laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God” (v. 13).

Immediately.

After years of bondage, one touch changed everything.

Jesus revealed the source of her suffering: “whom Satan bound for eighteen years” (v. 16). Many of our battles are spiritual. That’s why Scripture tells us:

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Freedom from spiritual bondage begins with surrender to God and resistance against the enemy.

And when Jesus sets you free, you are free indeed.

How to Experience Your Moment of Freedom

If you are believing for breakthrough, start here:

  • Submit your situation fully to God.
  • Resist fear, lies, and condemnation.
  • Declare the truth of God’s Word over your life.
  • Believe that Jesus still delivers today.

Your moment of freedom is not determined by how long you’ve suffered. It is determined by the power of Christ.

Insert your name into His promise:

“I am set free.”

The mighty One who lives in you is greater than anything against you. Freedom through Jesus is real. Deliverance is real. Breakthrough is real.

And your moment of freedom may be closer than you think.
