Take Control of Your Destiny: It’s Time to Choose!

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries3 Minutes

f you want to live in victory, you must Choose to Control Your Destiny—not by wielding more power, but by walking in real spiritual authority. This article challenges popular assumptions about spiritual warfare. It also draws from Joshua’s bold declaration to serve the Lord with undivided loyalty. Discover how your daily choices reflect your allegiance—and why only those fully committed to Christ will be able to stand firm when the battle comes.

How would you answer if someone asked you, “What do you think is the most important ingredient for successful spiritual warfare?”

Many Christians would answer that they believe it’s all about having more power than the devil. And along with that mindset, they would most likely plead with the Lord to give them the strength they need to overpower that force of darkness.

Authority Grows Where Obedience Flows

What’s important to remember, though, is that God will empower you by His Holy Spirit. Spiritual warfare is less about power than it is about authority. If you think you can overpower the devil, you’re wasting your time. Instead, focus on whether or not you are standing in the authority of Christ.

Another question you may often hear is, “Where does this spiritual authority come from?” The answer is simple—it comes from submission to the lordship of Christ, and it’s demonstrated by your obedience and daily choices to follow His will.

What does this mean for you? It means that only those who have chosen full allegiance to Christ will have authority to resist and defeat the devil!

Joshua as an Example

At the end of Joshua’s life he challenges the Israelites over their need to make a deliberate choice for themselves and their families:

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)

Joshua is speaking to those who didn’t have a clear personal allegiance with the God of Israel. He wanted them to know that the Lord would not be satisfied with anything less than total commitment.

These words could be addressed to any number of people today who profess to be Christian. Maybe you grew up in a traditional Christian environment. But more often than not, people become complacent in their commitment to cultivate a personal relationship with God. They also forget that this relationship is one worth going to battle over.
