Stepping Out in Faith When God Calls You to the Impossible

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries7 Minutes

Stepping out in faith often feels uncomfortable—especially when God calls you toward something that seems impossible. Yet throughout Scripture, we see that miracles unfold when ordinary people respond with obedience and trust. If you’re facing a situation that feels beyond your strength, this may be your moment to believe for more than you can see.

Everywhere Jesus went, the impossible became everyday life. Sick people were healed. Demonized people were set free. Dead people came back to life. And thousands were fed with just five loaves and two fish.

Life around Jesus was many things, but it never left people the same. His miracles brought hope to the broken—but they also challenged the status quo. Scripture tells us why:

“The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8).

The works of the devil are sin, sickness, and spiritual death. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But Jesus said He came to give us life—life more abundantly (John 10:10).

When we read the Gospels, we’re reminded of Jesus’ compassion and willingness to meet people in their need. He even asked:

“What do you want Me to do for you?” (Mark 10:36,51).

It’s a striking question—one He still asks today. Whatever the need, He was willing and able to meet it.

What do you need from Him right now?

Is It God’s Will to Bless You?

Some people question whether it’s truly God’s will to bless them beyond the ordinary. Yet God reveals His will through His Word. Consider just a few of His promises:

  • “Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 2).
  • “… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:18).
  • “The prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick” (James 5:14-15).

These are not random verses, quoted out of context. The very word “salvation” comes from the Greek word sozo, which means to be totally whole:

  • Physically
  • Emotionally
  • Spiritually
  • Financially
  • Whole in every dimension of life

Forgiveness is central to salvation—but God’s redemptive work touches every part of who we are.

Why Don’t We See More Miracles?

If God is willing and able, why do miracles sometimes seem rare? Scripture offers one sobering answer. When Jesus returned to His hometown of Nazareth:

“He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief” (v. 58).

It wasn’t a lack in Jesus. It was a lack of expectancy.

And sometimes, that’s where we struggle. Often we go through the motions of praying and asking God for His intervention, but we have a shortage of childlike faith. As Paul later warned, many people have “a form of godliness, although they have denied its power” (2 Timothy 3:5).

Before His ascension, Jesus said miraculous signs would “follow those who believe” (Mark 16:17). The question becomes less “Where are the signs?” and more “Where are the believers who will trust Him fully?”

Breakthrough often begins with stepping out in faith—even when outcomes aren’t yet visible.

Don’t Let Jesus Pass You By

In Matthew 4, we read that when Jesus entered a town, He healed “every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people” (v. 23). Scripture even says, “He healed them all” (Matthew 12:15). Nothing was too difficult for Him. Can you imagine the “buzz” in a town when people heard Jesus was passing their way?

But not everyone responded with expectancy. Not everyone prepared their hearts to receive Him—so not everyone experienced His miraculous touch. Jesus simply passed on by, with no impact on those people.

The difference wasn’t His willingness—it was their readiness. That truth invites reflection. Are we recognizing when He is near? Are we responding?

Is Jesus in Your Boat?

In Mark 6, the disciples were straining against the wind as they crossed the Sea of Galilee. Scripture says Jesus came toward them, walking on the water—and that “He intended to pass by them” (v. 48).

But when they cried out to Him, everything changed:

“He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were utterly astonished” (v. 51).

The storm didn’t end until they welcomed Him in. Perhaps the call to step out in faith is simply this: Invite Him into your boat. Bring Him into the middle of your fear, your questions, your impossibilities.

He still speaks peace to storms.

A Gentle Invitation to Believe Him for Breakthrough

Friend, you can be certain of this: Jesus isn’t distant. He’s present—and He sees what you’re facing.

Stepping out in faith may not mean dramatic gestures. It may simply mean choosing to:

  • Trust Him in prayer
  • Obey when He nudges your heart
  • Believe His promises—even when circumstances say otherwise

Whether you are seeking a miracle in your marriage, finances, health, or the lives of your children, His power is available to transform your situation.

It’s time to stir up your expectancy. Like the disciples on the Sea of Galilee, don’t just watch Him walk by. Invite Him into your “boat.” Cry out to Him in faith and refuse to let any doubt or distraction hold you back from the breakthrough He has prepared for you.

He is still working. And breakthrough often begins with a single step of trust.
