Living Unlimited: Secure in Who You Are

Lisa HollowayBy Lisa Holloway8 Minutes

Are you secure in who you are – living free in Christ as the authentic person God created you to be?

Too often, we let our sense of self get tangled in things that were never meant to define us:

    • Our limitations
    • Our doubts
    • Comparisons
    • Others’ expectations
    • The pressure of how the world works

But God made you for more than just surviving. He made you to live in freedom – a life of abundance and purpose. Not just someday in Heaven, but now. In this moment. Even in your present circumstances.

The Quiet Lies That Keep Us Stuck

Like many people, I spent years hiding behind a veneer – covering up:

My weaknesses …

My questions …

And my insecurities.

When I struggled, I either coped or vented. And while there’s nothing wrong with problem-solving or sympathy, one day it hit me:

Coping isn’t the same thing as really living.

And it felt nothing like the freedom I deep-down knew God wanted for me.

The truth? Hiding is exhausting. And I never felt truly known. I was afraid that if people saw the real me – my quirks, my flaws – they’d walk away. Sometimes I even walked away before they had the chance.

No matter how much I achieved, I always felt like an imposter. And every small mistake felt like a massive failure – as if I was the only one still figuring things out.

When You Don’t Feel Like You’re Enough

Have you ever felt that way? What if you could stop second-guessing your worth?

Many of us live with quiet fears:

    • I’m not enough.
    • I don’t belong.
    • I’ll never measure up.

As business leader Jamie Kern Lima said:

“When we don’t believe we are enough as we are, attention starts looking like love, external significance starts looking like success, and validation starts looking like worthiness.”

When we’re not secure in our identity, we often look for it in all the wrong places:

    • Achievements
    • Approval
    • Appearance
    • Relationships
    • Control

Yet none of those things can carry the weight of your worth. Only Jesus can. And He already knows who you are.

What Freedom in Christ Really Means

A lot of people have the idea that freedom means doing anything you want – whatever, whenever … no consequences. But real freedom isn’t reckless. It’s redemptive.

The dictionary defines freedom as “the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action; liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another.”

Once I stopped settling for coping and chose to start living freely, I realized two things:

    1. The enemy was still influencing me through unresolved wounds and lies.
    2. I didn’t really know what freedom looked like. And without that clarity, fear and lack of knowledge limited my choices.

Jesus knew we’d wrestle with this. That’s why He said:

“If the Son makes you free, you really will be free.”   – John 8:36 NASB

I was already free in Christ – but I didn’t know how to live like it. And the enemy was happy to keep me stuck – to keep me from my gifts, purpose, and true identity:

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
–  John 10:10

God created you for abundant life – and ultimately, it’s “the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21). There may be healing to walk through or truth to uncover. But freedom isn’t something you earn. It’s something you receive.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”  – Galatians 5:1

Who God Says You Are

In Christ, you’re not just accepted – you’re transformed. The Bible tells us you are:

    • A new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
    • God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)
    • Chosen and dearly loved by God (Colossians 3:12)
    • A son or daughter of God (John 1:12)
    • Complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10)

These aren’t just feel-good statements. They’re spiritual realities that shape how we live when we believe them.

When you haven’t internalized these truths, it’s easy to let others define you – or chase achievement to feel whole. But knowing how to live from your identity in Christ changes everything. Suddenly, you’re not living to prove your worth – you’re living because you already have it.

Secure in Who You Truly Are

How do you begin to live secure in who you are – especially when the world tells a different story? Try starting with these:

    1. Believe that God made you well. Live from identity, not for it. Let who you are in Christ guide your choices, not your fears.
    2. Let go of comparison. Your purpose, gifts, and calling are uniquely yours. You’ll be most at peace when you live aligned with God’s design for you. What’s more, you’ll begin to thrive.
    3. Replace lies with truth. Name the false scripts and unhealed hurts holding you back, then confront them with God’s Word.
    4. Get honest with God. He already sees you fully – and loves you fully. Bring Him your questions. Invite Him into your healing.

You don’t have to keep hiding. You don’t have to keep proving.

In Christ, you already are who He says you are – chosen, loved, secure. It’s time to live what you’ve been given.
