How to Stay True to God’s Way

Little by little we’re starting to hear whispers about the world’s economy recovering.

As good as that news is on the surface, it’s also cause for concern since it might be premature and lull some people into a false sense of comfort. It might tempt them to turn away from God’s way of doing things and fall into the world’s way of doing things.

The Bible speaks of these temptations in Colossians 2:8 when Paul warns us about inducements that are man-made:

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

Paul is telling us that temptation is a “hollow philosophy.” Temptation is man’s way — and Satan’s way — to hold you captive and lull you into doing things that are not always divinely inspired.

Avoiding Temptation

Every day we are faced with hundreds of choices, some of them more tempting than others.

Some of those choices are made by man; some of them are presented by God.

Understand that God clearly gives us choices and decisions, but those choices are not to be confused with the temptation of man — the lure to put other things in front of the Lord.

When faced with a decision, remember to ask yourself, “Is this the Lord’s way or the world’s way?”

An honest answer to that question should help you navigate away from temptation and put you back in the path of His loving hands.

Always Remain Obedient

God’s Word says that if we obey Him and make the right choices, we will have a positive reward.

The most important choice God will ever ask you to make is to make Him the Lord of your life. It’s the consequence of this choice that will determine where you’re going to spend eternity.

But other choices you make, such as your behavior and actions, are the choices that unlock the door to God’s rewards. They determine how you’re going to spend eternity.

Look at these verses that speak to the rewards He wants to bestow on you if you choose to be obedient to His Word:

  • When you choose to be persistent with God, He will hear and answer your prayers (II Kings 4; Luke 18)
  • When you choose to spend time in His presence, then His peace, blessings and prosperity come (I Chronicles 13).
  • When you choose to praise and worship God and give Him thanks in the face of adversity, you will be rewarded with victory (II Chronicles 20)

By making choices such as these instead of looking to the world’s way of thinking, God will shower you with His blessings.

What Are You Doing Today?

Think about that question before you answer it. What are you doing today that will prepare you for God’s great tomorrow?

He knows the plans He has for you. They have never changed.

Can you answer Him the same way when it comes to the obedience you’ve promised? Has your obedience been tempted?
