Over the years, I’ve met countless sincere believers wrestling with the same painful question: Does God really want to heal me?

If you’ve ever felt that uncertainty, I want you to hear this truth today. Healing isn’t a random lottery. It’s a covenant promise. As God’s child, you don’t have to beg from a distance. He invites you to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV).

Your Father takes no pleasure in seeing His children sick, hurting, or struggling. He cares about every part of your life, your “whole spirit, soul, and body” (1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV). He sees the anxious moments your family faces. He knows what you’re going through, and He feels your pain.

When the enemy attacks and circumstances press in, God reminds you that the battle is not yours, but God’s (2 Chronicles 20:15 NKJV). The fight may be fierce at times, but in Christ you’ll find healing, peace, and victory: “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37 NKJV).

God Heals in Many Ways

Whether your need is physical, emotional, financial, or relational, God can give you exactly the help you need. I thank God for doctors, nurses, and medicine, and He often works through them to bring healing. But He isn’t limited to any one method. Jesus once healed a blind man by putting mud on his eyes (John 9:1–7)!

8 Biblical Paths to Healing

If you or someone you love needs God’s healing touch today, look at these ways the Lord healed people in Scripture.

1. The Prayer of Faith

James writes, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up” (James 5:14–15 ESV). There’s tremendous power when God’s people pray in faith!

2. Anointing With Oil and Laying On of Hands

Jesus’ disciples “anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them” (Mark 6:13 ESV). Jesus said of those who believe, “they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:18 ESV). In Scripture, oil is a picture of the Holy Spirit, and laying on hands imparts His healing touch.

3. Repentance

Not all sickness comes from sin (John 9:1–3), but sometimes sin is a factor. That’s why James continues, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed” (James 5:16 ESV). After healing a man at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus told him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you” (John 5:14 ESV).

4. Spiritual Authority in Jesus’ Name

Jesus spoke of anyone who does a mighty work in my name (Mark 9:39 ESV). Peter used that authority at the temple gate when he told a lame man, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” (Acts 3:6 ESV).

5. Hearing and Declaring God’s Word

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17 NKJV). The psalmist says the Lord “sent His word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20 NKJV). Fill your heart and your mouth with His promises.

6. Obedience

Many of God’s promises are tied to obedience to His Spirit and His Word. He told Israel, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you” (Exodus 15:26 NKJV).

7. Communion

The Lord’s Supper is a beautiful picture of your covenant relationship with God, and healing is part of your covenant inheritance. Paul warned the Corinthians that their worldly, divisive conduct at the Lord’s Table had consequences: “For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep” (1 Corinthians 11:30 NKJV). Instead of receiving God’s healing power, they were reaping His judgment. When you come to the table with a clean heart, you can receive all He’s provided for you.

8. A Point of Contact

Sometimes people used an object to help release their faith. “Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them” (Acts 19:11–12 NKJV). There was no magic in the cloths. They simply helped people focus their faith on God’s power to do the miraculous.

Reach Out and Touch Him

Remember the woman who had suffered with bleeding for 12 long years (Mark 5:25–34)? She believed that if she could just touch the edge of Jesus’ garment, she’d be made well. She reached out in faith, and she was healed.

The same is true for you today. Jesus is with you right now. Reach out to Him by faith and ask Him for the healing you need.

Heavenly Father, thank You that because of Your great love, You want to heal Your child in spirit, soul, and body. Let Your healing power touch them mightily today and fill them with Your presence and Your peace. I declare in Jesus’ mighty name that every healing promise in Your Word is true for them. What does it mean that healing is a covenant promise?

A covenant is a binding commitment, and God tied His healing nature to His name. Right after bringing Israel out of Egypt, He revealed Himself as Jehovah Rapha: “I am the LORD, your healer” (Exodus 15:26 ESV). Isaiah prophesied that through the Messiah’s suffering, “with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5 ESV). When you receive Jesus, you step into that covenant, so you can approach God for healing as His child, not as a stranger.

Does seeing a doctor mean I don’t have enough faith?

Not at all. Luke, who wrote a Gospel and the book of Acts, was a physician. Paul called him “the beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14 ESV). Trusting God and receiving good medical care work together. Keep praying and believing as you follow your doctor’s guidance.

What should I do if I’ve prayed and I’m still waiting for healing?

Don’t give up, and don’t let the enemy tell you God has forgotten you. Keep standing on His promises, because “he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23 ESV). Surround yourself with believers who will pray with you, stay in the Word, and keep thanking God for what He’s already doing. Waiting isn’t a sign of failure. It’s often where your faith grows strongest.

Choose one healing promise from this article, write it on a card, and pray it aloud over your loved one every day.
