Hope in Hopeless Circumstances

Hope in Hopeless Circumstances

I’m convinced that hopelessness is the emotion of hell.

One of the Bible’s descriptions for Satan is Beelzebub, a name that means “lord of the flies” (Mark 3:22-23). This name gives us insight into the nature of Satan. Like all flies, he is attracted to garbage and manure. He breeds quickly and is a carrier of disease.

Beware: If your trials have caused you to have open wounds that have produced bitterness, resentment, revenge, jealousy, or unforgiveness, you’ve become a potential breeding ground for demonic activity. If you’ve harbored sins or rebellion in your life, don’t be surprised if the devil attacks you.

The one place a fly never lands is in the fire. God’s Word tells us to be on fire for Christ, ablaze with the Holy Spirit’s power in our lives.

The fire is not a comfortable place, but at times it’s a necessary place. Job trusted God despite his horrific circumstances, and he said, “I will come forth as gold” (Job 23:10). That’s the kind of hope we need — hope that just shines brighter in the fiery trials of life.

Bitter or Better?

The apostle Paul recognized that his difficult circumstances could make him better instead of bitter. Since God was able to work everything together for his good (Romans 8:28), Paul was confident that the tough times would soon be gone, swallowed up in eternal glory:

We’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 MSG).

You see, your trials are actually working for you rather than against you. Instead of destroying you, they are meant to make you more like the Master (Romans 8:29-30).

Your life will not be defined by the dark place your soul may find itself in at this moment. God is working a higher plan and higher purpose than you can imagine.

So if you find yourself in the forest of hopelessness, the only way out is to keep walking through the trees! Whatever challenges are in front of you right now, don’t stop. Don’t give up. Help is on the way.

The God of All Hope

The Bible reveals that your Heavenly Father is “the God of hope,” the one who wants to “fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

Remember…

• As you draw near to God in prayer, your hope will be nurtured.
• As God rekindles your hope, it will become the breeding ground of faith.
• Faith in God can turn your difficult situation around!

Don’t believe the devil’s lie that your situation is hopeless. There are no hopeless situations, only people who feel hopeless in their situation.

Your story is not over. God will see you through this. He is going to make your test a testimony and your mess a message.
