The Power of Choice: How to Draw Closer to God Daily

We Are Created in God’s Image—with the Power to Choose

In Genesis 1:26, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” Being made in God’s image is not about physical resemblance but a spiritual pattern. One of the clearest marks of that divine imprint is this: we were created with the power of choice.

God did not design us to be robots or puppets on a string. We are not forced into worship or manipulated into a relationship with Him. Instead, He gave us something sacred and precious, the freedom to choose Him.

Throughout life, God lovingly sets choices before us. The power of choice determines whether we draw closer to God or drift further away in our relationship with Him.

He reveals His will and invites us closer. But the decision … our response … is always ours.

And that makes love real.

Not a Forced Love Affair

If you love God, worship Him, praise Him, and seek His presence, it is because you have chosen to—not because some unseen force compelled you.

After all, forced love is not real love at all.

Because God created you with the ability to seek Him, you can experience as much of His presence as you desire. The depth of your relationship with Him is not limited by His availability—only by your hunger.

So pause and ask yourself:

• Do I want to simply know about God?
• Am I content being a casual acquaintance?
• Or do I long for true intimacy and friendship with Him?

The choice is yours.

Growing in Intimacy With God

Your Heavenly Father longs for a close, personal relationship with you. But intimacy never develops accidentally; it grows through intentional time spent together.

You cannot build closeness with someone you only speak to occasionally. Real, deep relationships are formed by consistent connection.

Every day, you face this decision: What kind of relationship do you want with God?

If you desire deeper intimacy, it begins with daily investment:

• Time in His Word
• Time in prayer
• Time in worship
• Time alone in His presence

As you do, He nourishes your soul with “daily bread” and strengthens you from the inside out.

The Turning Point Before the Breakthrough

Some breakthroughs happen instantly. But more often, God works through a process.

And in almost every story of transformation, there is a defining moment—a turning point where a new commitment is made before a new season begins. Before God gives us a new beginning, He first brings us to a place of new commitment.

This is exactly what God told Israel:

“I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity … So choose life … by obeying His voice and holding fast to Him …” (Deuteronomy 30:15–20).

God made His desire clear. He wanted to bless them, lead them into abundance, and give them a good land. But the outcome hinged on one thing: Their choice. They had to decide to draw near, to obey, and to hold fast to Him.

When You’re Walking Through a Winter Season

If you are in a difficult season right now, take heart. Your story is not over. Winter may feel long, but spring is closer than it appears. In fact, the harsher the winter, the deeper the roots grow. And deeper roots always produce greater fruit.

Your turnaround may begin today—not because circumstances instantly change, but because you make a new decision.

A decision to trust again. To seek again. To believe again.

God promises to work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Even the hard seasons are not wasted in His hands.

How to Begin Again and Draw Closer to God

Today, God is speaking gently to your heart:

“Forget the past. Forget the failures. Forget the mistakes. Come walk closely with Me, and I will lead you into triumph and abundance.”

What a loving invitation!

He is not asking for perfection—only surrender.
Not performance—but presence.
Not striving—but closeness.

You can begin again today.

Build a Life That Stands

Make a decision this year to build your life on a stronger foundation—one rooted in Christ’s love and faithfulness. Then, when storms come, you will not collapse. You will stand firm in confidence, peace, and security, knowing your life is anchored in Him.

Friend, you are standing at a crossroads. God is setting before you a future filled with blessing, purpose, and impact.
