When Jesus Comes on the Scene: Faith and Healing in Mark 5

Ben CerulloBy Ben Cerullo4 Minutes

When Jesus comes on the scene, even the most hopeless situations are filled with new possibilities. In Mark 5, the story of Jairus’ daughter shows how faith in Jesus brings healing, restores hope, and reveals His power over life and death.

Jesus still brings life where things seem lost.

When Faith Reaches for Jesus in Desperate Moments

Have you ever read the story of Jairus in Mark 5:22? The Bible calls him “one of the rulers of the synagogue”—a man of influence and respect. Yet when his daughter was near death, he knew only Jesus could help.

“My little daughter is at the point of death,” he said. “Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live” (Mark 5:23).

Jesus didn’t hesitate. He went with him.

Sometimes we wonder if we have to beg God for healing or breakthrough. But this story shows something different—Jesus responded to faith. He cares. He is willing. He addresses our need.

When Fear Says It’s Over, Faith Still Believes

But along the way, devastating news arrived:

“Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” (Mark 5:35).

Maybe you’ve faced a moment like that—when hope seemed gone, and the situation felt final.

But your story isn’t over.

Jesus turned to Jairus and spoke words that still carry power today:

“Do not fear, only believe” (Mark 5:36).

Fear will try to override faith. It tells you circumstances are permanent. It whispers that nothing can change … but God has not given us a spirit of fear.

And God’s truth is greater than what we see.

Our faith in Him anchors us in His promises—even when everything around us says it’s too hard … it’s too late. Even when trusting Jesus in difficult situations feels impossible, He remains faithful.

Jesus Brings Life to What Feels Lost

When Jesus arrived at the house, He found people weeping and mourning. The atmosphere was heavy with loss.

And maybe you can relate.

Not everything that dies is physical. Sometimes it’s dreams, relationships, finances, or purpose. Things you once held close can feel gone.

But Jesus is not intimidated by what looks dead.

He steps into broken situations and brings resurrection life.

Taking the girl by the hand, He said:

“Little girl, I say to you, arise” (Mark 5:41).

And just like that, everything changed. The girl stood up. Life returned. Hope was restored. The people were “overcome with amazement” (Mark 5:42).

What seemed final was not final at all.

That’s what happens when Jesus comes on the scene.

A Reminder for Today: Jesus Still Brings Healing, Restoration, and New Life

Friend, whatever you are facing today, Jesus is still the same. He still brings healing. He still restores. He still speaks life.

This incredible story in Mark 5 reminds us that faith in Jesus can bring healing, restoration, and new life—even when circumstances feel final, and when trusting Jesus feels difficult.

Don’t give up. Help is on the way.
