Your Passover Offering

Passover was not a ritual or tradition. Even though first announced by Moses, it was not to be observed because of him. The Bible declares that it was the Lord’s Passover. This was to focus on God and be  celebrated because it was His command.

During Passover, His people were to kill a lamb and put some blood “on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses.” God was bringing judgment and would “strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt.” At the same time, He made it clear that there also was a spiritual goal, as He judged the gods of Egypt.

Through this action, God also promised peace and safety for His people. But to receive these blessings, they needed to obey Him. If they obeyed, He promised to provide protection and deliverance. “When I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you.”

We see the fulfillment of Passover in the life and death of Jesus. Consider His actions on the night before He was crucified. Knowing that His body soon would be broken, He celebrated Passover, first by breaking bread.

Knowing that His blood soon would be spilled, He offered the cup, saying “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:19-20 NIV).

As He died on the cross, Jesus became our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). He died that each of us might be delivered, and have our sins forgiven.

Today, remember all that Jesus did for you. He is your Passover Lamb. He died so you can be forgiven and free. Receive all that He has done for you.
