Wonderful Provision

There seemed to be no hope. Thousands of Israelites were isolated in a wilderness with no food and nothing to drink. Desperate, they reminded Moses that conditions in Egypt might have been difficult, but at least they had food. In the wilderness, they were free from Egyptian repression, but it appeared inevitable that the “whole assembly” would die from hunger (v. 3).

This condition did not surprise God. He was prepared to provide everything they needed. And it would come from out of nowhere, in ways they did not expect. He would “rain bread from heaven,” provide meat for them, and feed them with manna, something totally unknown. Later, they would get water from a rock!

They could not conceive that God could meet their needs so miraculously, but He did. Describing how He would help, God revealed that this was a test to see if they believed He would provide for them.

God knew the Israelites might forget these miracles. So, He asked them to save some manna in order that future generations could see that it really happened.

Your problems may not seem to have solutions, and your situation may seem hopeless. Remember, you serve the same God who performed miracles for the Israelites. He knows your needs, just as He knew theirs. He asks you to trust Him and realize He still can do what seems impossible.
