Facing Giants with Courageous Faith

Facing giants with courageous faith. First Chronicles 20 shows how courage to face the giants before us grows out of faith that confronts what intimidates, reminding believers that God’s power enables victory over overwhelming challenges.

“At Gath … was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot … descended from the giants. And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him down” (1 Chronicles 20:6–8).

David gained fame by killing Goliath. But there were more giants that the Israelites would face. During a battle at Gath, they were confronted by one of these giants who, like Goliath, taunted Israel. But Jonathan, learning from the example of his uncle David, demonstrated courage, faith, and boldness. And, like his uncle, he succeeded in killing the giant!

Jonathan displayed important principles that apply in our spiritual lives. We may know about other men and women of God who have faced giants—overcoming colossal opposition, performing miracles, facing Satan and emerging triumphant. But can we defeat the giants in our own lives?

The Bible teaches that the same Spirit that raised Christ dwells in us (Romans 8:11). Jesus told us, “Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do” (John 14:12). “If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).

God has already given you authority in Jesus’ name to slay giants, move mountains, and do great things for His Kingdom. Don’t give in to doubt, but have the boldness, courage, and faith to put God’s Word into practice and act.

You don’t have to let the giants continue to taunt and defy you. Move forward boldly into victory!
