The Sure Prophetic Word
•2 MinutesThroughout the New Testament world, people were filled with awe at the Lighthouse of Alexandria (in Egypt). Known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, it was the tallest building on Earth at the time, rising to a height of 384 feet (the equivalent of a modern 40-story building). The rays of light it projected could be seen more than 35 miles out to sea.
This magnificent structure was built on the ancient island of Pharos, located there because of the dangerous sailing conditions in the region. For centuries, it was used to mark the harbor, using fire at night and reflecting sun rays during the day. It remained operational until the fourteenth century, becoming one of the last ancient Wonders of the World to disappear.
This lighthouse saved many ships from destruction. And it provides a symbol of the guidance we seek for our daily lives. Today, men and women look for many kinds of lighthouses to guide them into the future, and chart their course through life. But there is only one light that can lead us safely home, and help us navigate the troubled waters and turbulent conditions around us. That is the Word of God.
The Bible says that we have been given “the prophetic word,” of which we can be sure. We can look to this Word just like it was “a lamp shining in a dark place.”
In your life, remember that you can be sure of God’s Word. It will guide you, answer your questions, and anchor your life. Fill your heart with His Word, and trust your life to Him.
