The Certainty of God’s Plans

“I will stand on my guard post . . . I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me . . . ‘Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run. For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay.’” Habakkuk 2:1-3 NASB

Habakkuk was ready. He was alert and standing on his watch, completely prepared for God’s voice. Available, if God wanted to speak to him. And when God spoke, He told the prophet to “write the vision.” But He also told Habakkuk that this vision was set for an appointed time.

We can imagine how Habakkuk (and others) may have hoped that God would act immediately. As they waited, they might have felt abandoned, or wondered if He would intervene. But God assured Habakkuk that everything would be fulfilled, but in His time.

When faced with similar challenges, how easily we can wonder if God will act on our behalf, or if He knows what we are going through. We even can wonder if the Bible is true and when its prophecies will be fulfilled. These are times to remember that God’s Word always is fulfilled but only at the right time. At His appointed time. For the time He has set according to His eternal purposes.

Today, God’s plans remain as clear as they have been throughout the ages. And, they will come to pass.

Don’t be discouraged by trials and tribulations, or worried by delays. You can be confident that God knows what you are going through. Make sure that your heart and mind are alert and ready. In all things, stay focused and faithful to be doing the things He has called you to do.

Prayer: Father, I trust in You. I know that Your plans are sure and will be fulfilled at just the right time. Help me be faithful to Your call on my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
