Seeking God’s Presence Every Day

When you slow down to meet with Him, Seeking God’s Presence Every Day reminds you of the joy and strength that come when you seek the Lord continually.

“Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! […] Seek his presence continually. Remember the wondrous works that he has done, His miracles and the judgments he uttered. […] He is the LORD our God” (1 Chronicles 16:10–14).

Camp meetings uniquely changed America. Historian Everett Dick has described how, in the 19th century, people living in the western frontier gathered.

News about these camp meetings spread, and families gathered from throughout the region. Many slept in tents, but others lived in covered wagons, which might be “pitched in a circle around the place of meeting.” Typically, three meetings were held each day.

These camp meetings were deemed so important that whole communities often abandoned all but the most necessary work, so people could attend. During these special times, “The cares of life were laid aside for a few days.” Meetings often continued for two weeks or longer as the Holy Spirit moved powerfully, and people didn’t want to leave God’s presence.

This kind of experience is still needed today—the kind of commitment David describes when he calls the Israelites to “seek his presence continually. Remember the wondrous works,” and glory of His holy name. We all need time to draw apart from the world and seek the Lord.

Make God a priority in your life, and commit yourself wholeheartedly to Him. Pray. Worship. Read His Word. Listen to His voice. Remember all that He’s done for you. Don’t let the trivial things of this world keep you from the riches of time spent with Him.
