When God Calls You to the Mountain

Just as God met Israel at Sinai, When God Calls You to the Mountain reminds us to step away from daily distractions and meet with Him in worship and renewal.

“Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain.”—Exodus 19:17

Great revivals swept through the United States. It was 1800, and the country had been independent for just a few years.

America was transformed as people gathered into tents for times of worship, celebration, prayer, and preaching. This was the birth of modern camp meetings.

But the idea of gathering in tents had its roots in Israel’s exodus from Egypt. The Bible describes how the Israelites lived in a camp near the slopes of Mount Sinai.

Here, God dramatically revealed Himself and reminded the people of their sins and called them to repentance. God’s Word was proclaimed, and people were called to live according to His standards. They were called to separate themselves from the world and live holy lives unto the Lord.

These same themes resonated throughout the camp meetings in 19th-century America. And now, all of us need to remember these same issues every day throughout our lives.

You need a camp meeting in your life to draw apart from the world to experience His majesty and power … times when you can grow in your knowledge of His Word, sense His conviction for sin in your life, and seek His forgiveness.

Look for opportunities to have a camp meeting with God. Draw apart from the world to worship Him, seek Him, and know Him more intimately.
