Revival and Restoration

Revival and Restoration

Israel was experiencing major problems. Many sensed that there was no hope, that defeat was inevitable. In those ark days, Asaph, in desperation, turned to God. This man, who had been given the responsibility to lead music, cried out to God to “listen,” asking Him to “shine forth.” He was confident that God would save them (vs. 1-2).

But Asaph was honest with God, admitting that His people had made mistakes. He asked God to have mercy and hold back judgment. Asaph reminded Him of the many ways He had helped them in the past and pointed out that other nations were watching. Then he asked God to consider their condition and do a mighty work.

Three times in this psalm, Asaph asked God to restore His people. He also cried out for revival – a revival of the full relationship between God and His people, a revival of the flow of His power and wisdom, and a revival of His protection and guidance.

We, too, need to recognize how we have fallen short and sinned as individuals and as God’s people. We need to humble ourselves before Him and cry out for His mercy.

Today, pray for revival in your nation and your life. Seek to be filled with the Spirit, to be clean and pure, to be consumed with a passion to please Him. Dedicate yourself to bringing the Gospel to the world.
