Making Praise a Priority

How easily we can get in the habit of trying to fit God into our schedules. To think about what He can do for us. Being more concerned with ourselves rather than with Him. Even taking Him for granted.

These are reasons why it is important to spend quality time in praise. These are times when we don’t ask God for anything. When we don’t complain about our problems. When we put aside worries about our finances, jobs, or future. When we aren’t preoccupied with our hobbies or interests. When we aren’t thinking about our personal agendas.

All of these may be important, but it is essential to spend time in praise. Praise with no objective other than focusing on God. As the psalmist encouraged us: “Praise the Lord while I live.” This is praise that helps us remember that He is the Creator. That we owe everything to Him. To remember His promises and all that He has done for us.

David recognized the importance of praise. He wrote, “I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises” Psalm 34:1, NLT. He knew why we should have hearts filled with praise.

Why is this so important? Praise helps us get our focus off of ourselves and on to God. Praise helps us establish a right relationship with Him. Praise helps us keep life in perspective and stop obsessing about ourselves and the things that so easily occupy our time and attention. Praise can change and purify us and help us develop God’s perspective. And praise fills us with His presence.

What role does praise have in your life? How much time have you spent in praise? Make this a time of praise. Praise. Praise.
