Immediate Help

David needed help and his need was urgent! He asked God to “hurry” to deliver him and not to delay. He was pursued by people who delighted when he stumbled. He prayed that they would be “turned back and dishonored,” hoping they would regret their delight at his problems (v. 2).

Then, he commanded all who seek God to “rejoice and be glad” in Him. No matter how they felt, or what was happening, they never should stop saying, “May God be exalted” (v. 4).

Facing these problems, David may have found it difficult to be grateful or feel victorious. But he determined to declare God’s praises regardless of his circumstances. He realized that his feelings were false; God’s Word is true.

You may share situations like the one David faced when you have an urgent need. It is important to continue to trust in God – to rejoice in Him – even when circumstances don’t seem favorable and even when there doesn’t appear to be hope.

When you feel overwhelmed and in need, cry out for God’s help. When you have moments of doubt, renew your faith in Him. Declare the promises in His Word, and realize that they are true for you! Never hesitate to seek Him, always remembering that He is your help! No matter what you go through, be thankful. Praise and worship Him. Say continually, day and night, “May God be exalted” (v. 4).
