Filled with His Praises

“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” Hebrews 13:15 KJV

It was a moment that was unforgettable! A moment that changed the life of J. Wilbur Chapman, who was born in Richmond, Indiana, on this day in 1859.

As pastor and evangelist, Chapman knew what a difference Jesus could make in a person’s life. In 1908 he described the praise that was in his heart because of Jesus.

It was a day when “heaven was filled with His praises.” But the world had no hope because “sin was as black as could be.” But Jesus changed everything. His advent was supernatural as He was “born of a virgin.” But He also faced real problems as He dwelled “among men.” For all of us, He became our example.

Chapman tried to express the many ways Jesus had changed his life: “Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me; buried He carried my sins far away; rising, He justified freely forever; one day He’s coming—O glorious day!”

Chapman recalled how “they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,” and “nailed Him to die on the tree.” Jesus bore our sins and became our Redeemer. “The grave could conceal Him no longer,” and He arose, conquered death, and “now is ascended, my Lord evermore!”

He knew that Jesus was a “Glorious Savior” who was coming again, on a day when “the trumpet will sound for His coming.” Best of all, Chapman knew that Jesus was “mine.”

This same Jesus is yours, too. He died for your sins. He rose again that you might have life. And, He’s coming again, for you! Today, fill your life with His praises. Worship Him! And commit your life to this wonderful Savior. He is worthy of all praise!

Prayer: Father, I am so grateful that You sent Jesus to die for my sins. Thank You for all You have done for me. I offer my life and all I have in worship to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
