Crafted for God’s Purposes

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Crafted for God’s purposes. First Kings 7 shows how God crafts people for His purposes, equipping them with wisdom and skill so their work reflects excellence, faithfulness, and devotion to His glory.

“King Solomon … brought Hiram from Tyre … his father was … a worker in bronze. And he was full of wisdom, understanding, and skill for making any work in bronze. He came to King Solomon and did all his work” (1 Kings 7:13–14).

Everything was in place. The materials for the Temple were ready. The plans had been drawn. Before he died, David declared that it was to “be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands” (1 Chronicles 22:5). Even though David made all the preparations, Solomon was given the actual responsibility to build the Temple.

This was a complex project with countless details. Costly stones had been collected, and each had to fit perfectly. Every beam had to be cut to precise measurements.

Who had the knowledge, skill, and experience to supervise work of such complexity? Solomon found the man he needed in Tyre. Hiram was uniquely prepared for this assignment. He had high standards and “was filled with wisdom, understanding, and skill.” In describing Hiram, the Bible uses the same wording that described Bezalel, the man God selected to build the Tabernacle. Both men had been uniquely trained and equipped (Exodus 31).

The example of these men helps us see how God raises up people to accomplish specific tasks. We all have the opportunity and responsibility to develop these gifts and then invest them for His glory.

God has a unique calling on your life. He’s given you special gifts, talents, and resources to steward. You have been blessed to be a blessing. In everything you do, seek to make your work “exceedingly magnificent” to the glory of God.

Reflection Question: How am I using my God-given skills for His glory today?

Prayer
