Does God Still Heal Today?: What the Bible Says About God’s Healing Power

Ben CerulloBy Ben Cerullo8 Minutes

Many people today ask: Does God still heal today? The Bible makes it very clear: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 NKJV).

This article is a powerful reminder that God doesn’t just want to forgive your sins. Scripture shows us that God is not only our Savior but also our Healer. He longs to bring healing to your body, mind, and emotions. His power to restore is still alive today.

I’ve seen God heal blind eyes in Africa, restore hearing in Asia, and mend broken hearts right here at home. And yet many people still wonder if God heals today.

Let me answer that with a resounding YES! The same power that healed the sick, raised the dead, and made the lame walk 2,000 years ago is still at work—and it’s available to you right now.

Whether your pain is physical or emotional, God’s will hasn’t changed. He still heals. That’s why Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10 NKJV). And what’s Heaven like? No pain, sickness, or shame. That’s what God wants for you here and now.

The Unchanging Power of Jesus to Heal

Jesus lived that truth. Everything He did on earth mirrored what the Father was doing in Heaven (John 5:19). He healed, forgave, and set people free—just like He still does today.

Remember when Jesus asked:

“Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’” (Mark 2:9 NKJV)?

He was showing us something profound: Jesus paid for your forgiveness and healing at the cross (Isaiah 53:4–6; 1 Peter 2:24). And both are yours by faith.

Yes, we may face battles. Healing isn’t always instant. But in the fight, we must stand in our identity in Christ. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Romans 8:11), and with Him comes authority over every scheme of the enemy. You are not powerless or forsaken. You are filled with resurrection life.

What the Bible Says About Healing Today

Scripture consistently reveals God as a healer. From the Old Testament promises to the ministry of Jesus, the Bible shows God’s heart to restore what is broken.

Isaiah foretold that the Messiah would carry our suffering and bear our pain (Isaiah 53:4–6). Peter later reaffirmed this truth when he wrote that “by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24 NKJV).

Healing flows from the finished work of Christ and the love of the Father who desires restoration for His people.

Why Healing Sometimes Takes Time

So why do people sometimes suffer with sickness and pain even after prayer? Although I don’t claim to understand each and every situation, here are a few observations:

God’s Timing and Persevering Faith

God’s timing or our need to persevere in faith can sometimes delay healing. We shouldn’t get discouraged if we don’t see an instantaneous miracle every time we pray.

Even in the waiting, God is working, and His Word remains true. Delayed answers are not denied answers—sometimes the breakthrough is being forged in the waiting room of trust.

Walking in Surrender to God

Unresolved sin or disobedience can block God’s healing power. We must ensure we submit our lives fully to God in order to successfully resist Satan (James 4:7).

But remember—Jesus came to “destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8 NKJV), and under God’s authority, we can walk in freedom from sin, disease, depression, and every other attack.

The Freedom of Forgiveness

Unforgiveness and bitterness can create spiritual blockages. Jesus taught us that receiving from God is tied to our willingness to forgive others (Mark 11:25).

Bitterness poisons the soul and can even affect the body. If we want to walk in the fullness of healing, we must walk in the freedom of forgiveness—letting go of offenses and trusting God to be our Healer and our Judge.

Speaking God’s Word Over Your Situation

One of the most important things you can do is speak life. Too many believers unknowingly cancel their prayers with words of doubt and fear.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV).

What you say matters. When you declare God’s Word over your situation, you’re partnering with Heaven to see His will done on earth.

You Don’t Have to Walk Through This Alone

And don’t walk through your battle alone. Surround yourself with people of faith who will pray, encourage, and speak truth over you.

The early church experienced powerful healings not just because they believed, but because they believed together. There’s power in agreement (Matthew 18:19).

Healing isn’t meant to be pursued in isolation; it’s nurtured in community.

God Still Heals Today

God is not moved by need alone. He responds to faith. Even when your body aches and your heart is heavy, choose to believe His promises.

Faith doesn’t deny the pain—it declares that God’s power is greater than the pain.

Truth sets us free (John 8:32). But ignorance can keep us bound (Hosea 4:6).

So hear this truth clearly: God still heals today.

Don’t give up. Don’t settle for less. Jesus paid it all—your sin, your sickness, and your freedom.

When He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30 NKJV), He meant it.

Now it’s your turn to believe it—and live in the victory Christ already won for you.

If You Need Prayer

If you are believing God for healing today, you don’t have to walk through this alone.

Whether you are facing physical illness, emotional pain, or a difficult season of life, God sees you and cares deeply for you. Scripture reminds us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and faithful to those who call on His name.

If you would like someone to stand with you in prayer, we would be honored to pray with you. Share your prayer request, and let us believe together for God’s healing, strength, and peace in your life.
