It’s Time for a Reality Check

It’s common for Christians to claim Christ as Lord and Savior with their outward projections. But in reality, many seem to have actually fooled themselves into this position based on what their mouths are saying versus what their hearts are portraying.

The world’s way insists that in order to succeed, you must put yourself first and not let anyone or anything get in the way of your success.

For many, when the economy was thriving, it was easy to fall prey to this mindset. But Jesus said that whoever embraces an attitude like that will lose everything.

His Words couldn’t ring more true in today’s tough economic times — the riches that had once ruled many have now turned into increased financial struggles, broken relationships, and more.

The Riches Are in His Kingdom

Many Christians are now re-evaluating what is of most value in their lives. God has placed many of His children in a situation where they have no alternative but to surrender all to Him.

Their jobs and their careers, their 401(k) plans, their homes, their cars — everything they thought was essential to survive in the world today — is now on the line. It’s as though God is telling them to let it go so He can reward them with the riches of His Kingdom.

Yes, Jesus said that living by the world’s way instead of God’s way would result in loss, but He also said that those who offer their lives in full surrender to serving God will gain the true riches of the Kingdom.

God is not relegating you to a life of poverty and lack. That would contradict His Word. But, in many cases, He may be insisting that your priorities change and that you no longer seek worldly riches.

Instead, He stands before you, guiding you, so you can pursue the true riches from above. Jesus warned:

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust will destroy and thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19-20).

What are the treasures that you can “lay up in heaven?” They are the eternal treasures that come from loving and worshiping God above anything else. They come to you as you pour out your life in love and service to God — doing what He has put before you, no matter how the world’s ways might be tempting you.

This type of devotion and commitment are what God seeks from you. These are the prerequisite for receiving the abundant supply that He promises for all your earthly needs.
