Karen Abercrombie and Redemption in ‘Eleanor’s Bench’

Karen Abercrombie is an award-winning actress known for her performances in War Room, Discarded Things, God’s Compass, Hope Lives, and many other films. In 2016, she won two awards for her portrayal of Clara Williams in War Room: Grace Awards for Best Actress and Most Inspiring Performance in Movies. She followed that up with a 2020 ICVM Crown Award for Best Actress for her role as Grace Wyatt in Discarded Things. Then she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 2022 Content Film Festival & Media Summit for Hope Lives, where she played Ms. Ryan.

In 2020, she took on the role of Eleanor Thomas in the TV movie, Eleanor’s Bench. Three years later, Abercrombie reprised her role as Thomas when the movie was made into a 6-episode series. Abercrombie’s Thomas is a successful Washington DC juvenile court judge who is challenged when her inner-city past comes to court and demands more than judgment, prompting her to return to her impoverished neighborhood of youth. The show beautifully mends the challenges of spiritual, emotional, and physical healing into a poignant narrative on redemption, equality, and faith.
