Your Words Have Power

Your Words Have Power

This excerpt from Glenn Arekion explores the powerful spiritual truth that your words have power—not just to influence others, but to shape your own destiny. Drawing from Scripture, it shows how faith-filled speech activates God’s promises, while careless or fearful words can invite defeat. If you’re ready to break cycles of despair and step into victory, it all starts with what comes out of your mouth.

Want victory in your life? Start speaking in faith.

The voice of the Lord thunders and removes powerful opposition; it prepares the way, making a highway in the desert, leveling the battlefield, and revealing the glory of God. As you release the voice of faith, you prepare for God to move in your life, and you will see the glory of God.

The voice of faith is God’s plan of dominion for you to eradicate defeat, delays, despair, destruction, and devastation. If you are serious about shedding the defeat cycle from your life, it is imperative that you learn to live by the voice of faith. The words we speak from our mouths are very important. A believer has no business saying whatever comes to his mind.

God’s Holy Word has a lot to say about our words and how they affect us:

You have been snared by the words of your mouth – trapped by the words from your mouth. (Proverbs 6:2 CSB)

From the fruit of a person’s mouth his stomach is satisfied;
he is filled with the product of his lips.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruit
(Proverbs 18:20–21 CSB).

Take Words to the Father

Never go to God with an empty mouth. Jesus is the High Priest and executor of your words before the Father. An apostle was one sent on a mission to execute the decree:

Take with you words, and return to the Lord: say to him … (Hosea 14:2 ESV).

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus (Hebrews 3:1 NKJV).

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways (Job 22:28 KJV).

When you go before God, you have to bring faith-filled words. If a man ever goes to God with the Word of God in his mouth, it is as if Jesus Himself was standing before the Father. As the Father would respond to Jesus, He will respond to you.

Don’t take whining and doubts before Him. Words of fear and doubt activate Satan, and words of faith activate God; He is a faith-activated God; He is a Word-activated God (His Word in your mouth). I take the Word of Almighty God before my Heavenly High Priest, Jesus. In the Old Testament, whether one person, a priest, a high priest, or a number of people went before God, they did so with a sacrifice. No one could approach God without a sacrifice. Today, the sacrifice that we bring to Jesus to give to God is the fruit of our lips (Hebrews 13:15).

God then will create the fruit of your lips (Isaiah 57:19). This is why Solomon said, “From the fruit of a person’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is filled with the product of his lips” (Proverbs 18:20 CSB). The fruits that will taste good to your palate are the ones that God creates. The fruits that will taste bad to your palate are the words that empower Satan to move against us.

You must be aware of the words of your mouth. You must understand that words are containers; they are filled with things or forces. Have you ever heard someone say, “It was just empty words”? There are no such things as empty words! Words are filled with joy and victory, or they can be filled with all kinds of negativity. For untold numbers of believers, Satan has tricked them into using that trigger power against themselves. King David compared words to arrows (Psalm 64:3).

Think about the analogy of the sword and arrows compared to words, signifying they are lethal weapons. A sword or arrow will either work for you or against you. An arrow or bullet will simply go where it is pointed. It will not change its direction once it is triggered or released but will hit its designated target. That’s exactly how words function; they go in the direction that you release them … they never miss.

Your turning point in your life will begin when you have a turning point in your mouth and heart. The apostle Paul declared, “The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart” (Romans 10:8 KJV). The Word that you have in your heart – that is voiced through your mouth – will dominate the world, the flesh, and the devil. It will make you the governor of your life (James 3:4).
