What Do You Expect

What Do You Expect?

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries5 Minutes

When it comes to God’s promises, the question is: what do you expect? Living with expectancy unlocks His abundance, multiplies your faith, and positions you to receive more than you imagined.

Trust in God’s amazing goodness—and watch what He can do.

One of the keys to unlocking God’s covenant promises is living with expectancy. It’s not enough to simply wish, want, or even pray for His blessings. Without expectation, without faith in His goodness—we’ll miss the very things He longs to give us.

Why? Because expectancy releases our faith. It says, “I trust God to provide, not my own strength.” David captured this beautifully: “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him” (Psalm 62:5 NKJV). When our hope is rooted in the Lord, we can endure with “faith and patience” until the promises come to pass (Hebrews 6:12 NKJV).

This expectancy must be centered on God—not on people, systems, or circumstances. As Psalm 145 reminds us:

The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing (vs. 15–16 NKJV).

But let’s be honest—it’s easy to shift our focus. When we fix our eyes on our needs or challenges, our faith begins to falter. What was once confidence in God becomes fear and anxiety—all because we’ve looked away from Jesus.

Give God What He Asks For

If you want to live with holy expectation, start with surrender. Time and again in Scripture, we see this pattern: When people gave what God asked for, they did so in faith, expecting that He would do something greater with it.

Abraham was asked to lay his beloved son, Isaac, on the altar (Genesis 22). Because of his obedience, God revealed Himself as Yahweh Jireh—The Lord Will Provide—and made a covenant that through Abraham’s seed, all nations would be blessed.

Moses was told to surrender his shepherd’s staff (Exodus 4). That ordinary stick became the “rod of God” (v. 20 NKJV), used to part the Red Sea, bring water from a rock, and lead a nation to freedom.

A young boy gave up his simple lunch of five loaves and two fish (John 6). In Jesus’ hands, that humble gift fed thousands—and still left twelve baskets of leftovers!

Each of these stories carries a common thread: expectation. They didn’t just give—they believed. They acted in faith, trusting that when God asks for something, He intends to multiply it.

So don’t hold back. What you have may seem small—too simple, too insignificant—but placed in His hands, it becomes more than enough. That’s how His abundance works. You give what you have, and He opens His hand in return.

God is not asking you to figure it all out. He’s asking you to trust Him. Expect more. Release what you’re holding onto, and watch what He will release in your life.

He is the God of more than enough—and when you give with faith and live with expectation, you’ll see just how true that really is.

Scriptures to meditate on this month:

Week One
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.
Psalm 62:5 NKJV

Week Two
It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 NLT

Week Three
Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap.
Luke 6:38 NLT

Week Four
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 NKJV
