Take the Next Right: The Three for Traveling Together

What is the HOV Road Sign? And exactly how will knowing about it strengthen my walk?

Hello everyone and welcome to Take the Next Right, the series that has literally taken Scriptures to the street and streets to the Scripture, to the highways and the byways, all to see how God can strengthen our walk by using everyday road signs to guide our daily spiritual walk. Before we conclude today, I’d like to take a minute to thank you for joining me. I absolutely love meeting with you to dive into God’s Word and then to also let God’s Word dive into us, making us stronger, more steadfast, and filled with His wisdom.

Yesterday, we talked about our last sign which represented the HOV Lane. It is the sign for the High-Occupancy Vehicle Lane, which many call the Carpool Lane.

We saw that perhaps God had saved the best sign for last because of its rich principle, which is this: God did not make us to travel alone. He wants us to have those who walk this life with us, to help us heal, and to give us hope all along the way.

Here’s my idea of the perfect HOV Lane. We come together in groups of two or more and dig into God’s Word and let it fill us. Then, He uses each of us to fill others up and encourage them. And because we keep gathering like this, we are blessed to have people in our lives who know us, who really know us, who we are, as we are, what we’re going through, and what we’re battling. And when they see our battle escalate, they come and stand right by our side so that we never feel alone. These are power people in our lives and what we can be in the lives of others.

But these relationships do not just happen. We build them by using what I call the three T’s. First, time. It takes a lot of time, so be creative and find ways to spend time with your friends. Think about things you’re doing alone that you can invite someone to join you. Grocery shopping, your morning walk. What are you going to do anyway that you could ask friends to come along?

Secondly, trust. It takes trust. We have to trust one another and that can be very difficult because we’ve all been hurt. Still, we have to keep trying. We cannot allow something that happened in the past to feed us now or in our future. I think C.S. Lewis said it best. He said, “Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another, ‘What? You too? I thought I was the only one.’”

We need time. We need trust and we need truth talk. Truth talk about who we are, what we’ve been through, what our struggles are, what victories God has gotten us through, all of that. Remember your story matters. First, what was meant for harm, God wants to transform for your good. But why? The Bible tells us in Genesis 50:20, “for the saving of many.”

You have to share what God has gotten you through if it’s going to be used to save others. And to further enhance that truth, look at Revelation 12:11. It reveals how God allows us to partner with Him. Listen to this. “They overcame by the power of the blood and by the word of their testimony.” The enemy wants to keep you isolated in your own lane and silence because he knows the force we are when we come together and talk about what God has done for us. Truth talk is freedom to form bonds to travel together so that we never feel alone and isolated again.

Well friends, thank you so much for joining me in this series, Take the Next Right. I hope you’ll see God and remember His principles as you travel life’s highways and byways. Whatever the signs, let’s move forward from this study determined to stay securely in the HOV lane. With the people God has put in our lives to love and support and sharpen one another as we follow His perfect path. I know God has used this time to strengthen me and I truly pray that He has also used this time to strengthen your walk.
