Jehovah Rapha

We all desperately need to know God as Jehovah Rapha – the God who heals. If we seek to grow in intimacy with Him, we can trust Him to heal and restore our lives, no matter the circumstances we face.

Have you ever been trapped in a remote place where there was nothing but polluted water? It was just such a setting where God first revealed Himself as Jehovah Rapha.

The Israelites’ miraculous deliverance through the Red Sea disintegrated into three days of desert trekking that led to an undrinkable spring of water. As the people grumbled, Moses cried out to God for help. One simple instruction – obeyed by Moses – made the bitter water sweet.

Their trial of faith led to a fresh revelation of God and an eternal principle we need to know.

If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all His decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you (Exodus 15:26 NLT).

Only God can heal the poison in our lives – whether it’s in our bodies, hearts, relationships, or finances, Jehovah Rapha is the prescription. But we have a role to play too. We must step out in faith, trusting Him to be who He claims to be: the God Who Heals.

Sometimes we will need to cry out like the father of the demon-possessed child, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief ” (Mark 9:29). And Jesus, our Healer, will meet us at our need and transform the bitter trials of life into testimonies of His glory.
