Boldly Walking: Face Your Fear

Kim CrabillBy Kim Crabill4 Minutes

I’m Kim Crabill and I’m delighted to share with you some of the things I’ve learned about how God can strengthen our walk. Do you know what is the first thing you’re going to have to confront when God invites you to do something? Most of the time it’s fear. And that’s why in His word He talks over 300 times about confronting our fear. To fear not. But He tells us that not to condemn us or to ridicule us, because He knows we’re going to have fear.

He’s telling us there’s a better way. When I think about this, I can’t help but think about a story involving my young son. He was in a baseball game, a tournament, and it was the championship game. It was kind of important for him. I’ll never forget it was the last inning and we were on the last out. And he was in an uncomfortable position. The batter hits the ball, and the ball truly seems to almost go into space. It just keeps going up and up and up. And everybody – all the parents – were standing up, cheering for the person to catch the ball.

The ball starts to come down, down, down. And guess where it’s going? Yes, right into my son’s glove. I began to pray. All parents know what I’m talking about. I saw that little glove and I saw his little face. I saw him running around trying to catch that ball. You could feel the tension in the air. Then all of a sudden bam. He caught the ball. We were so excited. We kept running. I went running out on the field. I went, “Austin! I’m so proud of you! Oh my goodness!”

He was only about 10 years old. I said, “How did you stay so calm? How did you do that?” He looked at me and brought his eyes to my eyes. He said, “Mommy, I may have been calm on the outside but I was shaking on the inside.” And I’ll never forget that. I’ll never forget that. He had a job to do. And he was scared. And he wasn’t in a comfortable position. Yet, when the ball was hit his way, he was doing everything he could to confront that fear and get the job done.

Friends, God is calling us to great things today. Along your walk, wherever you go, in your Sunday school class, in the grocery store, in your family … God’s gonna be calling you to things. It’s gonna make you fear. And you’re going to think that you can’t. And you’re not gonna be comfortable. But I hope that you’ll remember this story.

Remember Isaiah 41:10 where God says, “Fear not, for I am with you.” He is our strength. He is our confidence. He is working through us to get the job done. I hope this story and this scripture strengthen your walk for the day.
