Where Is Jesus?

Years ago, the youth at our church were conducting the sunrise service and recreating the Easter story. They showed Jesus being put in the tomb, then dramatized the moment Jesus’ female followers showed up and discovered the tomb empty.

My four-year-old son was amazed. In the silence, he exclaimed loudly, “Where is Jesus?”

Isn’t that the question of Easter and the days after? “Where is Jesus?” It seemed everyone was looking for his missing body, including Mary Magdalene (John 20: 13):

(The angels) asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”

But even afterward, Jesus kept popping up and disappearing. Doubting Thomas demanded to see Jesus before believing. On the road to Emmaeus, two followers encountered a resurrected, unrecognizable Jesus and discussed how their companions could not find Jesus at the tomb.

These days, as believers look at the state of the world, they ask, “Where is Jesus?” Non-believers may wonder, in the genesis of faith or through long-standing doubt, “Just where is Jesus?”

I only know the general answer: Jesus is close by. He promised to always be with His disciples. He is only a breathed prayer away. We only need to seek Him, and we will find Him.
