There Is No Better Example Than a Godly Mother

God has called mothers to play an important role in our lives. They are often our first role models, showing us how to be selfless, patient, kind, hard-working, and loving. Scripture clearly tells us not to forsake a mother’s teaching, and when we honour our mothers, God blesses us (Ephesians 6:2-3).

Mothering Sunday was originally created during the Middle Ages as a day to celebrate mother churches throughout the British Isles. Today, the special day is a time to celebrate and appreciate all mums in the United Kingdom, including those who may not have given us birth.

Nowhere is a godly mother described better than in Proverbs 31:25–28 (NIV):

She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her.

On this Mothering Sunday, as you honor your mums, we pray for God’s peace and grace upon you and your loved ones.
