Joy to the World, the Lord Is Come!

One of my favorite things about this season is the abundance of Christmas carols in the air. Whether you’re driving along the road, sitting in church, or walking through the mall, nothing can get you in the mood for this time of year better than hearing a Christmas song.

A Christmas song I especially enjoy is the classic “Joy to the World.” This yuletide favorite was written by Isaac Watts in 1719. The song celebrated its 300th anniversary last year; however, it’s still one of the most popular Christmas hymns today.

“Joy to the World” tells us to celebrate the arrival of our King and to praise Him through song, just as Psalms 98:4-6 reminds us:

Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break in praise and sing for joy! Sing your praise to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and melodious song, with trumpets and the sound of the ram’s horn. Make a joyful symphony before the Lord, the King!

This carol not only tells us to rejoice, but it also instructs us to prepare and open our hearts to Jesus: “Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room.”

I pray that you and your loved ones have a Merry Christmas. As you celebrate this special season, I pray you will welcome Jesus into your heart and rejoice in His arrival.

“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!”

God bless,
