Wonderful God, Wonderful Life: How to Live Life in God’s Favor This Christmas and New Year

David CerulloBy David Cerullo6 Minutes

As Christmas approaches and another year comes to a close, it’s natural to reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and where we need God to intervene. Yet my mind keeps returning to one unforgettable character: George Bailey.

Yes—that George Bailey, from Frank Capra’s classic film It’s a Wonderful Life. Played brilliantly by Jimmy Stewart, George battled discouragement, disappointment, and the fear that his life didn’t matter. In his moment of despair, God sent help—an angel-in-training—to open his eyes and show him just how blessed, favored, and impactful his life truly was.

George Bailey’s story feels familiar because so many believers quietly wrestle with those same questions. Maybe you aren’t hopeless … but you’re wondering:

“Is my life really blessed? Am I still in God’s favor?”

No matter what this year held, I want you to hear this clearly today:

God loves you. God is with you. And God wants to give you a fresh revelation of His goodness and favor.

Whether you’re believing for healing, a financial turnaround, restored relationships, or renewed peace, you can choose today to take authority over the enemy’s attacks and stand on the unshakable promises of God’s Word. He is faithful—and He is working behind the scenes for your breakthrough.

Jesus Came to Announce God’s Favor Over Your Life

One of the most powerful declarations Jesus ever made was in His very first sermon. Quoting Isaiah 61, He said:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me … to preach the gospel to the poor … to heal the brokenhearted … to set the captives free … to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).

Right from the beginning, Jesus made His mission unmistakably clear:

He came to reveal the Father’s heart, release His favor, and bring healing, freedom, and restoration.

This wasn’t just a momentary miracle. This wasn’t a one-time blessing. This was an invitation for you to enter into a wonderful, ongoing life of God’s favor.

As we look toward a new year, let me share three biblical keys that can position you to walk in more of His blessing, joy, and breakthrough.

1. Proclaim God’s Favor Over Your Life

Jesus didn’t just announce favor—He modeled a principle: We must proclaim God’s promises with our own mouth.

Scripture says, “The tongue has the power of life and death” (Proverbs 18:21).

Even if you’re going through a “winter season”—loss, illness, financial pressure, family struggles—you don’t have to accept defeat. Speak boldly to your circumstances:

  • “God is working in my life.”
  • “This is my turnaround season.”
  • “God’s favor surrounds me like a shield.”
  • “I will see His blessing in my home, my health, and my finances.”

Your faith confession gives birth to expectation and changes your direction.

2. Don’t Settle for Resolutions—Believe God for a Revolution

Every year after Christmas, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions. There’s nothing wrong with goals—but God offers something far more powerful: He can give you a New Year’s revolution.

Not superficial changes. Not short-term improvements. But deep, lasting transformation.

What do you need God to turn around?

  • Has the enemy stolen your health?
  • Has he attacked a relationship?
  • Have finances been tight?
  • Has peace or joy been slipping away?

Take hold of 3 John 2 (KJV): “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

God specializes in reversals. He restores, renews, rebuilds, and resurrects. He makes all things new (Revelation 21:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

This year, don’t just set goals—Invite God to transform your life.

3. Seek God’s Wisdom for Every Area of Life

I meet many faithful believers who feel stuck spiritually or financially. They pray. They tithe. They give. But something still seems missing.

Often the missing ingredient is simple: They haven’t asked God for wisdom.

When you open your heart to God’s wisdom, every other area begins to shift.

Solomon wrote:

“Get wisdom … though it cost all you have, get understanding … cherish her, and she will exalt you” (Proverbs 4:5-9).

God’s wisdom brings clarity. God’s wisdom brings protection. God’s wisdom unlocks His favor.

And the promise is simple:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, ask God … and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).

Right now—pause. Ask Him for wisdom. Ask Him to guide your decisions, direct your steps, and fill your heart with understanding.

His wisdom will change your life.

A Wonderful God … a Wonderful Life

No matter what this past year held, because God is faithful: It truly is a wonderful life.

My friend, I’m praying for you. As you put these three keys into practice, great things are ahead … for you. And as you proclaim His promises, seek His wisdom, and believe for a revolution, I’m convinced: Your breakthrough is closer than you think.
