Giving Thanks As Our Act of Worship!

At this time of year, as people across America celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s good for us as believers to remember that the giving of thanks is a form of worship.

The act of offering thanks is a Biblical tradition going all the way back to Noah and his family after the flood. As soon as the ground was dry, Noah emerged from the ark and built an altar to thank God for watching over his family.

Later King David would make the giving of thanks a central part of many of his psalms. After bringing the Ark of the Covenant into the city of Jerusalem, David sang a psalm of thanksgiving, declaring:

“Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples!” – 1 Chronicles 16:8

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul exhorted believers to “rejoice in the Lord always.” Then to emphasize the importance of giving thanks to God, he repeated the idea: “Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).

As you gather with family and friends to celebrate your Thanksgiving, I encourage you to take time to worship our God for all He has done in your life.

I pray that throughout the coming year, together we can demonstrate our ongoing gratitude to the Lord by sharing the Good News with others – both here in America and around the world!
