The Resurrection Power of Jesus

The Resurrection Power of Jesus: How God Still Brings Dead Things Back to Life

Good Friday reminds us of a moment that looked like defeat.

Jesus hung on a cross outside the city of Jerusalem. The Lamb of God willingly gave His life for the sins of the world (John 1:29). Darkness covered the land. Hope seemed lost.

But the story of Jesus did not end at the cross.

On the third day, the stone was rolled away, the tomb stood empty, and the resurrection power of Jesus changed everything.

That single moment changed everything.

Because Jesus lives, the resurrection power of Jesus is still at work today. The same power that raised Christ from the grave is able to bring life, restoration, and hope into the most hopeless situations.

God still brings dead things back to life.

The Cross Was Always God’s Plan

The death of Jesus was not an accident. It was not a tragic ending to a promising life. And it certainly was not Satan’s victory.

The cross was part of God’s eternal plan to redeem humanity.

Scripture tells us that Jesus was “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8). Long before the first sin entered the world, God had already prepared a way to rescue us.

The cross reveals the depth of God’s love for us. The resurrection reveals the greatness of His power.

Together they tell the greatest story ever told: God’s plan to restore us and give us eternal life.

What Is the Resurrection Power of Jesus?

The resurrection power of Jesus is the power of God that raised Christ from the dead.

But this power is not something we only celebrate at Easter—what I prefer to call Resurrection Day. Scripture tells us that this very same power now lives within every believer.

Romans 8:11 declares:

“The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.”

Just pause and think about that promise for a moment.

The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the grave now lives in those who belong to Him. The power that conquered death itself is at work in the hearts and lives of believers today.

God’s resurrection power brings life where there is death, hope where there is despair, and restoration where things seem finished.

The Great Exchange of the Resurrection

Through Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection three days later, a divine exchange took place.

He took our brokenness so we could receive His life, both here and for all eternity.

Scripture describes this powerful exchange:

  • Our sin for His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21)
  • Our sickness for His healing (1 Peter 2:24)
  • Our poverty for His abundance (John 10:10; 2 Corinthians 8:9)
  • Our sentence of death for His eternal life (Romans 6:23)

Because Jesus rose from the dead, our story does not have to end in defeat.

God’s Word says we can now “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). He offers new beginnings, restored hope, and supernatural turnarounds when you choose to trust Him.

Trusting the God Who Raises the Dead

The apostle Paul understood the resurrection power of God in a very personal way.

At one point in his ministry, Paul wrote that he and his companions were overwhelmed beyond their own strength. The pressure was so great that they even despaired of life itself (2 Corinthians 1:8).

But that experience taught Paul an important lesson. Instead of relying on his own strength, he learned to trust in “God who raises the dead” (2 Corinthians 1:9).

That description of God is powerful.

Our God is not limited by our human circumstances. He is the God who raises the dead.

When situations seem impossible, He still has the final word.

When Life Feels Like a Valley of Dry Bones

Even strong believers sometimes struggle to hold onto this truth. When challenges pile up, it can feel as though parts of our lives have become dry and lifeless.

Perhaps you are facing a broken relationship. Maybe a dream has faded. Maybe your health, your career, or your finances feel stuck in a place that seems impossible to change.

Life can feel like the valley described in Ezekiel 37 at times like these.

In a remarkable vision, the prophet Ezekiel was placed in a valley filled with dry bones. These bones represented God’s people who believed their future was gone and their hope had given way to despair.

God then asked Ezekiel a powerful question:

“Son of man, can these bones live?” (Ezekiel 37:3).

This is the same question many of us face when we look at broken situations in our lives. Can my marriage be restored, can my children come to the Lord, can my disease be healed, can these dry bones possibly live?

Even Ezekiel struggled to answer. All he could come up with to say was, “O Lord God, You know.”

Sometimes that is where faith begins. You may not see the answer, but you simply trust the God who does.

Speaking Life Into Dead Situations

God then gave Ezekiel an unusual assignment.

He told the prophet to speak to the dry bones and declare the Word of the Lord (Ezekiel 37:4).

Ezekiel was not allowed to stand back as a passive observer. God called him to participate in the miracle by declaring His Word.

The same principle applies to us today. When we face lifeless situations, we must begin speaking the promises of God instead of surrendering to despair.

God’s Word carries life-giving power.

When the Bones Begin to Rattle

As Ezekiel obeyed and spoke God’s Word, something extraordinary happened.

Scripture says there was a noise and a rattling as the bones began to come together (Ezekiel 37:7). What had once been scattered and lifeless started reconnecting and forming again.

Then the Spirit of God breathed upon them.

Suddenly the valley that once held dry bones was filled with life!

Those bones stood up as “an exceedingly great army” (Ezekiel 37:10).

This vision was not only about restoration. It was about purpose.

God did not bring those bones back to life so they could simply exist again. He restored them so they could stand strong and fulfill His plan.

The Resurrection Power of Jesus Is Still at Work

The same God who breathed life into those dry bones is still working in us today.

The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is still moving in the lives of believers. His resurrection power is still restoring broken lives, healing wounded hearts, and renewing hope.

If something in your life feels lifeless or beyond repair, remember this truth: God specializes in bringing dead things back to life.

Christ is risen, and because He lives, hope is never lost.

Restoration is always possible. And the resurrection power of Jesus is still bringing new life, joy, and purpose to those who trust Him today.
