Why Hezekiah Prospered

The Bible says that Hezekiah “prospered.” What was the key to this prosperity?

This resulted from the fact that he sought God in everything he did. He was committed to Him with all his heart. His goal was to please God. Because of this firm commitment, “he did what was good, right and true” before Him (Amplified).

God was pleased with this attitude and approved of his priorities. As a result, He blessed whatever Hezekiah did, and gave him success. This enabled Hezekiah to accomplish great things.

There is another aspect to this “prosperity.” The Hebrew word here implies a sense of forward movement, even rushing or advancing. We might say that Hezekiah prospered because he wasn’t passive. He didn’t stand still and just watch. Instead, he was active and stepped out in faith.

This is a pattern that applies even today. We see why Jesus said that the greatest commandment was, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:36-37). As we focus on Him, He promises to provide all our needs, and bless our efforts.

We also see the importance of stepping out in faith. As the Bible reminds us, “without faith it is impossible to please Him.” We must believe that He rewards “those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).

Make sure that you seek God first in everything you do. Keep Him in first place. Do not hold back but serve Him with all your heart. Moving forward in faith, be confident that He will provide His blessing.
