When Understanding Finally Breaks Through

Walking with Jesus doesn’t always mean seeing clearly, and When Understanding Finally Breaks Through reminds us that true clarity comes only when God Himself opens our minds.

“Their eyes were kept from recognizing him. […] Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:16, 45).

From a human point of view, the two men walking with Jesus should have known what was happening. They had been with Jesus and heard Him teach on many occasions. They knew the Law and the prophets. As they walked, they recalled hearing reports that He had risen from the dead.

They thought they understood everything perfectly. But in fact, their conclusions were completely wrong. They didn’t have God’s perspective or understand His plan. They didn’t even know Jesus was walking with them!

How was it possible for them to be so ignorant? Because “their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” None of their human efforts or experiences enabled them to see. But after their time with Jesus, they began to understand. Why? Because “he opened their minds to understand.” With this supernatural revelation, things turned around. Things that were in conflict were resolved. What made no sense suddenly made sense. Jesus brought everything together.

How easy it is for us to be like these men and assume that we understand and know the meaning of events. But this story reminds us that we need revelation from God. Unless He opens our minds and gives us understanding, we will be groping in darkness. His revelation changes everything.

Ask God to open your eyes to more of His truth. Ask Him to teach you and give you more revelation about His Word and the world.
