When God Opens Your Eyes

Paul’s prayer comes alive when God opens your eyes to His power—revealing that resurrection strength is not distant theology but a present reality for those who believe.

“Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope … what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe” (Ephesians 1:18–19).

Many people in the world consider Christianity to be just another religion, filled with rules. And many consider Jesus to be nothing more than a wise teacher. But Paul knew that the dimensions of the Gospel cannot be grasped by our human minds. They require a revelation from God. Only this kind of revelation can enable us to comprehend its overwhelming depth.

Paul prayed for this revelation for the believers in Ephesus. He prayed they would have spiritual understanding to realize that the Gospel is about the riches of God and power of surpassing greatness available to all who believe.

Paul wanted them to grasp the transformation that took place when the Father raised Jesus “from the dead and seated him at his right hand” (v. 20). There, Jesus is “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named” (v. 21). He is above everything and always will be.

Many Christians go through life without ever experiencing the depth of these truths. They’re satisfied with a mediocre faith and allow their lives to be dominated by trivial concerns. But Paul would want us to realize the greatness of God’s desire for us.

Do not be content with less than God’s best for you. Ask Him to help you grasp the full dimension of His resurrection power. Then expect His power to be unleashed in your life.
