What Awaits Beyond This Life

“What Awaits Beyond This Life” turns our focus from earthly pride to eternal hope, reminding us that Heaven is real and our future with Christ is beyond comparison.

“I know a man in Christ who … was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—and he heard things … which man may not utter” (2 Corinthians 12:2–4).

Paul described how an unnamed man (whom many believe was Paul himself) was “caught up to the third heaven.” This must have been amazing! What did he see?

Paul’s account is filled with mystery. He didn’t know exactly how this happened or even if the man was “in the body” or “out of the body.” He couldn’t describe what Heaven was like, for what was seen was inexpressible and could not be repeated.

What was the purpose of this revelation? Certainly, Paul realized that Heaven was a place of the extraordinary, the indescribable, the overwhelming, and the unimaginable. Pondering this experience, he realized how often people boast about themselves or their talents and abilities when none of us have anything we can boast about except our “weaknesses” (v. 5). He saw clearly that everything we have is a gift from God.

Let this glimpse of Heaven be an encouragement to you! Jesus said He was going to “prepare a place for you” and promised He “will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3).

If Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you can look forward to eternity spent with Him. You will see that indescribable place and hear those inexpressible words.

You can prepare yourself right now. Humble yourself before God. Seek Him. Worship Him. Dedicate your life and resources to serving His Kingdom.
