Understanding Brings Joy

The Jews had a life-changing experience after they returned from exile in Babylon. What happened? They focused on God’s Word as never before. They had heard the Word being read, but now these words came alive for them as never before. As they listened, they were given greater understanding and insight. They were encouraged, their burdens were lifted, and they were filled with joy!

The Word of God has this kind of impact on our lives. It can change us and transform our lives. Even if we face situations that seem hopeless, the Word gives us God’s perspective. It can give us hope and joy in any situation.

But it isn’t enough just to know about the Word or to read it occasionally. The Bible describes the Word as being like hidden treasure, with riches given to those who dig, who seek, who demonstrate initiative, who hunger and thirst for the Word, who listen and study.

When we truly understand the Word, our lives will be impacted in ways we cannot imagine. Our attitudes will change. We will think with greater clarity, and receive more of God’s wisdom. We will have more discernment and be able to act prudently.

Today, make a commitment to seek God’s Word as never before. Read it. Study it. Ask God to give you new revelation and understanding, to reveal to you greater depths of His truth, changing your life so that, in turn, you can impact others for His Kingdom.
